• Deltasone has been clinically proven to impair calcium absorption and bone formation. Therefore, with long term use of corticosteroids, supplementation with calcium and vitamin D is strongly encouraged. Tell your pharmacist if you have osteoporosis.1
• Deltasone also compromises the immune system and depletes several important nutrients. Supplementation with vitamins C, B12, magnesium, potassium, selenium, vitamin B6 and zinc may be beneficial.2
• A study found N-acetyl cysteine to be of added benefit in treating certain respiratory illnesses when combined with a corticosteroid.3
• Ephedra (Ma huang) may increase the clearance of Deltasone, decreasing its effectiveness.4
• Licorice may affect the action of Deltasone, and should be avoided with the medication.5
