Michigan GOP Senators demand FULL AUDIT of the ballots and votes … by hand
11/14/2020 // Arsenio Toledo // Views

Two Republican state senators in Michigan have formally requested that Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, a Democrat, conduct a full audit of the 2020 election before the results are certified. Sens. Lana Theis and Tom Barrett handed their request to Benson on Thursday, Nov. 12, citing over 100 signed affidavits filed in various lawsuits that have challenged the electoral processes in Michigan.

Among the concerns that Theis and Barrett brought up include alleged instances of ineligible ballots being counted and ballots being duplicated during the vote-counting process.

“Every citizen deserves to have faith in the integrity of the election process and its outcome,” reads the letter they submitted to Benson. “It is our responsibility, as elected public servants, to assure the people of Michigan of the process’s integrity through complete transparency and the faithful investigation of any allegations of wrongdoing, fraud or abuse.”

Multiple allegations of fraud coming out from Michigan

Theis and Barrett took action when they learned of the “software glitch” that plagued Antrim County in northern Michigan, which initially gave the county to Democratic nominee Joe Biden until the issues were resolved. The state senators are also concerned with the rising number of allegations concerning election officials who they believe have “critically mishandled numerous ballots.”

They believe this was done through a number of ways, such as through backdating absentee ballots so that they are regarded as eligible, ordering election workers to not verify the signatures of voters on absentee ballots and coaching voters to vote for a certain party

Theis and Barrett also want Benson to investigate allegations that unsecured ballots arrived at the TCF Center in Detroit where absentee ballots were being processed and certified. The accusers state that these ballots were dumped at the TCF Center were not properly placed in envelopes or sealed within secure ballot drop boxes.

The allegation further states that as many as 40,000 ballots were dropped off at the TCF Center by vehicles from out of state after election officials said that all the votes in the county had already been counted.

“All of these ballots were allegedly for one candidate,” said the state senators in their letter.

Finally, Theis and Barrett want Benson to investigate allegations of “illegal and official intimidation and interference” of poll watchers and poll challengers. They believe that there is a lot of credibility behind reports that poll challengers were harassed by election officials, they were arbitrarily treated unequally depending on which political party they identified with and election officials refused to record their challenges.

There are also credible reports of poll challengers being barred from full access to the TCF Center and of challengers being removed from the site after politely voicing a challenge.

“These claims deserve our full attention and diligent investigation to ensure fairness and transparency in our election process,” said Theis and Barrett in their letter to Benson. “As such, and due directly to these issues, we are requesting a full audit be conducted of the 2020 General Election prior to the certification of any results.”

The secretary of state did not immediately commit to an audit.

“We’re reviewing the request in the letter while the canvass proceeds, which itself is an audit,” said Benson’s spokesperson Tracy Wimmer. There is evidence that Benson is hesitant to conduct a proper audit before the results have been certified.

Both she and Wimmer have made statements saying that any kind of impropriety in the election would have been caught during the canvassing process. The only reason they weren’t caught earlier is because either local media outlets or the Michigan Republican Party’s poll watchers and challengers caught them first.
