New research published in the Journal of Nutrition reveals that
consuming soy milk and other soy-based products fights colon cancer.
Researchers identified a phytochemical in soy called glucosylceramide
that reduced both the formation and growth of tumor cells in the
gastrointestinal tracts of mice.
It's yet more good news for the
many benefits associated with the consumption of soy products. Soy has
also recently been shown to prevent prostate cancer and stop hair loss
in men. It's a nutrient-dense food with an ever-growing list of health
benefits, which is one reason why populations that consume more soy
(Asian populations, primarily) exhibit far lower rates of cancer than
the western world.
