Among the different types of cancer, colorectal cancer is the third leading cause of death among Americans today, after the skin and lung varieties. Although considered curable, especially when detected fairly early, colorectal cancer tends to metastasize fast.
Metastasis is the process wherein cancer cells spread to other parts of the body, making treating the disease a lot more complicated. The researchers of the Chinese study aimed to examine whether Quxie Capsule would remain safe and effective in treating colorectal cancer even after it has metastasized.
They conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving 60 patients diagnosed with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). The patients were randomly assigned to two groups. The control group received conventional treatment accompanied by a placebo, while the treatment group was administered conventional care and Quxie Capsules. The trial lasted for three months.
The researchers took two factors as outcome measures: overall survival (OS), usually defined as the percentage of people who remain alive after a certain period of time, and progression-free survival (PFS), the length of time that the patient lives with the disease but without the condition getting worse. They followed up on the participants every three months until the end of December 2016.
Upon analysis of the data, the researchers found that the participants in the treatment group had a median OS of 23 months while those in the control group had a median OS of only 14 months. Even when the patients were divided into more specific subgroups, those whose treatment was accompanied by Quxie Capsule exhibited greater survival rates.
Furthermore, those in the treatment group were noted to have had no severe hematological toxicity or any impairment to both liver and kidney function. However, no significant differences were noted between the control and treatment groups in terms of PFS.
The American Cancer Society estimates more than 97,000 new cases of colon cancer to be diagnosed by the end of this year. Here are several ways to lower one's risk of developing this deadly disease:
