Y Combinator Startup Outlit Pitches AI Agents to Monitor Every Customer
10/18/2026 // Chase Codewell // Views

A Y Combinator-backed software startup called Outlit is developing artificial intelligence (AI) agents that continuously monitor customer data and online activity for business clients, according to a report published Wednesday, Oct. 14, by Futurism.

The company's pitch email states the venture's central thesis plainly: "every company will soon assign an AI agent to every customer to watch their every move" [1]. Outlit has not been publicly released, and company co-founder Josh Earle told Futurism the company is working mostly with business-to-business software companies.

The report frames Outlit as part of a broader expansion of AI-powered monitoring tools, while other reporting covers license-plate reader networks and AI surveillance probes [2], police AI drone programs [3] and government social media tracking [4]. Outlit's founders describe continuous customer monitoring not as an option, but as an inevitability for business-to-business sales.

How Outlit's AI Customer Monitoring Works

According to Earle, Outlit's agents collect internal records such as call logs and sales data, along with external information such as social media posts and the websites of a customer's employer. He said a salesperson or customer success manager would wake up, open the engine dashboard, and see the cases the system built, the content it pulled in, the reasoning behind it and what to do next.

That combination of continuous operation and broad data sourcing is consistent with wider trends in AI-driven behavioral profiling, including ad-targeting systems that track and monetize viewer behavior [5] and the use of real-time data from live customer interactions, transaction logs, social media activity and connected sensors to build predictive customer models.

Privacy, Consent and Legal Questions

Earle told Futurism that Outlit does not inform the individuals being monitored and does not offer an opt-out. The Futurism report stated that the system raises privacy concerns consistent with other AI-powered surveillance technologies.

Public debate over automated monitoring has intensified as license-plate reader networks expand, with a U.S. Senate subcommittee probing a company that operates more than 120,000 automated license-plate reader cameras across 49 states, generating more than 20 billion vehicle scans per month [6]. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) has also expanded an AI surveillance probe to three additional companies, seeking to learn who can search such systems, how far they can look and what happens afterward [2].

Conclusion

Analysts at a major retail industry conference described artificial intelligence as emerging as a "new front door to commerce" [8], while researchers have tracked coordinated behavior among large numbers of AI agents in other settings [9]. Against that backdrop, Outlit's founders treat perpetual customer monitoring as the future of business-to-business sales rather than a question still open for debate.
