Rep. Beyer loses faith in Biden, whom he earlier compared to Jesus

Virginia's Democratic Rep. Don Beyer appeared to have lost faith in Joe Biden, whom he earlier compared to Jesus Christ.

Beyer reportedly called Biden a "very, very fragile" man who "also really has trouble putting two sentences together" during a Democratic leadership call. According to the congressman for the Old Dominion, his "perfect world is Joe … [stepping] aside now" after talking to House Majority Leader Hakeem Jeffries of New York, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York and other high-ranking Democrats.

Beyer also suggested that the Democratic Party let Vice President Kamala Harris run as the incumbent presidential nominee, which in the congressman's words "makes her even stronger." He continued: "I also believe [Harris] is in a great position to win in November, probably a much better position than [Biden]."

Aaron Fritschner, a spokesman for the Virginia representative, quickly came to the rescue. He noted that Beyer "supports Biden," adding that "any reporting to the contrary is a misunderstanding of what he said and what he believes."

The congressman later issued a statement on July 7 reiterating his support for the Biden-Harris ticket, adding that he looks forward to "helping defeat former President Donald Trump in November." Beyer was reportedly proud to have hosted an event with Biden in Northern Virginia, the statement added. It concluded by mentioning that the congressman will continue doing all he can to support the Biden-Harris campaign in his state and across the country.

Fortunately for him, the president tends to easily forget things lately. He's also not the only Democrat to have called for Biden to step aside.

"At least 10 House Democrats have called for Biden to step down in both public and private remarks," the Washington Free Beacon reported. "Biden's June [27] debate performance has led to panic throughout the party over not only whether he can defeat … Trump in November, but whether he has the cognitive ability to remain commander-in-chief." Beyer compares Biden to Jesus

Earlier, Beyer compared the incumbent president to Jesus Christ during introductory remarks delivered at a fundraiser in McLean, Virginia – one of Biden's first public appearances after the June 27 debate.

"[Jesus] died to demonstrate the universality of human suffering, that suffering was not the end. We each endure tragedies in our lives and hardships and suffering," the congressman began.

"But few had to endure more than this man," he then said of Biden. "Losing his wife, losing his daughter and losing his son. The vicissitudes of American politics. But all through he has been a good, good man. He's resilient, optimistic, indefatigable, and above all courageous."

Beyer continued that presidential historians are already considering the first 41 months of Biden's term as "the most productive and successful in our nation's history." According to the congressman, Biden "has transformed our economy."

The Free Beacon pointed out: "Beyer made other lofty claims about Biden at the fundraiser, though none as dramatic as the comparison to Jesus."

Fritschner told the outlet that the idea Beyer was comparing the president to Jesus was "preposterous."

"[The congressman] was clearly musing on the centrality of suffering to the human experience," said the spokesman. "As a basic matter of language and reading comprehension, at no point in this quotation did he compare the president to Jesus Christ."
