Speaking to the entertainment website Deadline, Maher said that he has never felt scared of COVID but is instead afraid of the reaction to it – a fear that has been bolstered by the way things have been playing out in society.
Maher, who is the host of Real Time With Bill Maher, contracted COVID-19 in May last year despite getting two doses of the vaccine.
He said that he has long believed that the virus is not much of a threat to people in good health. In his view, the most vulnerable people need to be the focus of protection given that the disease is mainly affecting people who are elderly and obese, rather than the blanket approach the government has been using.
He also lamented the fact that authorities have not been using the situation to encourage people to live a healthier lifestyle.
He said: “I’m just saying that is a lifestyle … the fact that America, the medical establishment, never even attempted to get people to live a healthier lifestyle as a response to this pandemic is a giant scandal to me.”
He went on to list a lot of the conventional wisdom that has been helping people improve their health and immunity that has been largely ignored by the media and the health authorities who claim to have our best interests at heart.
“It’s not a rarefied or weird point of view to say that if people would up their vitamin D levels, up their zinc levels, stop eating sugar, get a proper amount of sleep, stop overeating and day drinking, which is what went on during this pandemic, they would have a much better chance [of recovering],” he added.
He also talked about the corruption in the medical establishment and the fact that they continue to push vaccines on us that do not stop people from getting the disease or passing it to others – and he won’t be getting a booster as long as that is the case.
Maher also pointed out that even publications like the New York Times are starting to express some doubts about multiple boosters, saying: “Now, they’re giving a fourth one in Israel with the booster shots. Now, this I read in the front page of the New York Times, which is a very pro-vaccine publication, and even they printed that many scientists in Israel were against this, scientists and doctors, because they said it might have a reverse effect, something called immune system fatigue.”
“Well, I don’t want that, do you?,” he asked. “So, now you’re not protected by the vaccine or your immune system? I don’t think so.”
He went on to say that there is no need to discriminate against people who would rather let their bodies try to tackle the virus than take on the risks that have been associated with the vaccine, saying that “[w]e should not treat people unfairly who want to allow their own immune system to take care of the situation.”
Last week, his show made headlines when guest Bari Weiss, a journalist and author who has worked for the New York Times and Wall Street Journal, said that she was done with COVID after previously complying with all the regulations.
“You will realize you can show your vaccine passport at a restaurant and still be asymptomatic and be carrying Omicron. And you will realize most importantly that this is going to be remembered by the younger generation as a catastrophic moral crime,” she said.
Many people have been expressing agreement with her sentiment, which even saw the hashtag #DoneWithCovid trend on Twitter. She added that many of her progressive and liberal friends agree with her but are keeping quiet about it because they’re scared of getting labeled as being anti-vaccine or pro-Trump.
