Nowhere has this become more evident than in the way Democrats are exploiting the COVID-19 pandemic, which they are using as a test bed to see just how much power and authority they can grab for themselves and secure moving forward.
Red states governed by Republicans have been free and mostly open for more than a year as it became apparent that lockdowns were not halting the spread of the virus. Always much more liberty-minded than Democrats, these GOP-led states and cities have flourished and their citizens are happy and productive not having to live under the Marxist stupidity of mask and vaccine mandates being imposed by the little Hitlers and Stalins running blue states and cities.
Like Los Angeles.
L.A. is following its distant left-wing cousin, New York City, and imposing one of the country's strictest vaccine mandates for most businesses and venues, essentially trampling on once-sacrosanct medical privacy (that still happens to be the law, by the way), as ABC News reports via MSN:
It will be one of the strictest vaccine rules in the country when it goes into effect next month.
The Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday approved the ordinance, which will apply to indoor restaurants, bars, gyms, shopping malls, entertainment venues (such as the Staples Center and movie theaters) and personal care establishments (including nail salons, spas and hair salons) starting Nov. 4.
Retail establishments, including grocery stores and pharmacies, are not included.
Because, you see, the virus isn't as virulent or dangerous in pharmacies and grocery stores.
"The ordinance allows for medical and religious exemptions. In lieu of vaccination, patrons must show proof of a negative COVID-29 test taken within 72 hours," the network added.
The new ordinance is different from orders that were previously issued by officials in Los Angeles County. Beginning last week, L.A. County now requires people to have at least one does of a vaccine or proof they tested negative for the virus for customers and staff in "high-risk settings" like indoor bars and nightclubs; both doses are required by Nov. 4. Vaccine verification is recommended for indoor dining but not required -- because, again, the virus is less virulent in restaurants than in "bars and nightclubs."
Some city council members actually had some concerns about the burden the ordinance is going to place on small businesses, making them enforcers of the law. But of course, those concerns were dismissed because the lunatics on the city council aren't small business owners. City Council President Nury Martinez claimed the law will help the city "finally get back on track to normalcy."
"Angelenos deserve to see the other side of this pandemic -- where we can return to walking around without masks, without restrictions, and without fear," Martinez wrote on Twitter last week, ahead the vote.
But in fact, the way to get back to "normalcy" is to mandate it: 'Let's get back to normal by ditching vaccine and mandates as well as lockdowns and requirements to give up private medical and health information.'
That's easy done; the L.A. City Council can simply proclaim it by ending the stupidity.
They can't, though, because that won't allow them to continue to micromanage millions of people.
America is no longer the 'land of the free.' It's becoming the 'land of the mandate.'
