The comments came after President Biden said misleading posts on Facebook were "killing people."
"They're killing people. The only pandemic we have is among the unvaccinated. And they're killing people," he said.
Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters Friday's press briefing that the White House is "regularly" coordinating with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other Big Tech giants on the "latest narratives dangerous to public health" that the administration wants to be censored.
"We are regularly making sure social media platforms are aware of the latest narratives dangerous to public health that we and many other Americans are seeing across all of social and traditional media," Psaki said.
"There's about 12 people who are producing 65 percent of anti-vaccine misinformation on social media platforms," she added.
Psaki told the press that the White House encouraged social media companies like Facebook and Twitter to tailor their algorithms to promote "quality information" and work together to permanently ban problematic accounts.
"You shouldn't be banned from one platform and not others," she said.
Afterward, Facebook pushed back against the president's comments, taking issue with his characterization of Facebook's involvement in promoting vaccinations.
"We will not be distracted by accusations which aren't supported by the facts," Facebook said. "The fact is that more than 2 billion people have viewed authoritative information about COVID-19 and vaccines on Facebook, which is more than any other place on the internet."
"More than 3.3 million Americans have also used our vaccine finder tool to find out where and how to get a vaccine. The facts show that Facebook is helping save lives. Period."
