(NaturalNews) The rapidly spreading Ebola pandemic has just taken a turn for the worse in the United States, where politics are now driving the conversation. Widespread concern over a level-4 biohazard outbreak in Texas has now given way to mass polarization as those on the political left have gravitated toward the irrational position that a BSL-4 hot virus in the continental United States is no big deal.
"Don't worry about Ebola. Get your flu shot instead!" has become one of the many bizarre mantras of those who are falling in line with President Obama to downplay the severity of the risk of Ebola in America. The risk of Ebola is so inconsequential, we're told, that there's really no reason to ban international flights from Ebola-infected nations, nor to consider any restrictions on the foot traffic illegally crossing the southern U.S. border. In fact, as I've pointed out in an article,
the mainstream media is now showcasing its mental illness on this issue by attempting to equate air traffic restrictions with racism.
In last week's congressional hearing, the only hard-hitting questions about Ebola were asked almost exclusively by Republicans, as Democrats largely parroted the official Obama administration position that air traffic isolation would somehow not help prevent infections in America. What's most shocking to me is not that this medical issue has turned political, but rather
how rapidly the American masses fell into line with their chosen political leaders. The phenomenon of independent, critical thinking is almost completely lost in America these days, and nearly everyone looks to their favorite political figures or media talking heads to tell them what to think.
It makes me wonder whether some sort of brain-damaging virus has already silently spread across the population, knocking out the cognitive function of the mainstream population and stripping from them the gift of independent thought.
Ebola should be a humanitarian issue, not a political issue
Personally, I have never looked at Ebola as a political issue. For me, this has always been a humanitarian issue; a medical issue with billions of lives at stake. How Ebola happens to play out in the upcoming mid-term elections in the USA was never even on my radar. I am far more concerned with
stopping the chain of transmission in the USA and containing this outbreak before it gets even worse.
Sadly, what I've noticed over the last few days is a strong tendency for Obama supporters to try to downplay the Ebola outbreak as a mid-term election strategy. The better things are in the world, the thinking goes, the more confidence will be reflected for Democrats at the voting booths.
Conversely, the worse things look in the world, the more people are likely to vote for a changing of the scenery in Congress, and that might include Republicans taking a majority in the U.S. Senate.
What's really disturbing here is that
people are playing politics with a serious Ebola outbreak instead of dealing with the reality of the outbreak itself. By downplaying the reality of the outbreak which has spread in an uncontrolled manner in Dallas, people are putting us all at risk of a toned-down response to the pandemic. And the simple, raw truth of the matter is that if we don't take extreme public health measures right now to contain this outbreak in Dallas, we may miss a critical window of opportunity that could cause this to spread to millions.
Somehow,
many people today are acting as if saving their mid-term elections is more important than saving America from Ebola. That just shows you the level of sheer delusion many people still exhibit when it comes to the false idea that government can solve their problems.
Yet one more reason to expect a worsening Ebola outbreak in America
The bottom line in all this? If the Ebola response in America is now going to be driven by politics rather than medical realities, then we are all doomed. Because politics is the realm of incompetence, illusion and lies, and each of these things only encourages Ebola to replicate even more quickly.

The Federalist Papers. It's entitled, "If CDC ran Homeland Security." Go there to see the cartoon at full size:
