(NaturalNews) Lost in the news cycle of scandal and corruption at the White House, Justice Department and the IRS, a vile abortionist got what was coming to him when a Philadelphia jury found him guilty of killing at least three babies born alive at his filthy, house-of-horrors clinic.
Dr. Kermit Gosnell provided abortions to poor, underprivileged women for more than 30 years, often taking cases that pushed "the 24-week threshold when abortion becomes illegal in Pennsylvania,"
Philly.com reported.
Convicted of taking the lives of three babies who had the misfortune of being
born alive at an abortion clinic by jabbing scissors into the base of their skulls and "clipping" their spinal cords, now Gosnell has his own life to worry about.
'War on poverty' - how about 'war on babies?'
From
Philly.com:
Gosnell appeared as placidly enigmatic as ever as the jury of seven women and five men came into court at 2:50 p.m., the ninth full day of deliberations, and said he was guilty of three counts of first-degree murder. ...
The only obvious show of emotion as the verdict was read was by Christine Wechsler, 36, a former city prosecutor who with Assistant District Attorney Joanne Pescatore handled the Gosnell case from 2010 through trial.A conviction of first-degree murder in Pennsylvania - defined as "the premeditated, malicious killing of a person," according to
Philly.com - is punishable by death (lethal injection) or by life in prison without the possibility of parole.
A lethal inject is far less brutal than the way
Gosnell killed
his victims. But he's a
humanitarian, you see. Here's how the news site described Gosnell's practice:
Gosnell began his career during the 1960s' "war on poverty," helping found an urban medical clinic and a drug halfway house in Mantua. Even in the years before the 2010 drug raid that closed his clinic and led to his arrest, Gosnell's family practice was known for never turning away patients regardless of their ability to pay.Reign of terror
And yet, this man was anything but human:
-- The 72-year-old Gosnell, reported
BusinessInsider, "is accused of using unfathomable abortion procedures on inner-city patients who were well into their third trimester at an unsanitary, bloody, and utterly gruesome clinic called the Women's Medical Society." Though he was formally accused of killing seven
babies, authorities and prosecutors believe he killed hundreds more, as well as destroyed related records, a grand jury report indicates.
-- Per ex-clinic employee Stephan Massof, who testified before the court, "It would rain fetuses. Fetuses and blood all over the place."
-- The
Philadelphia Inquirer reported that Sherry West, another former clinic employee, said one newborn at the clinic was 18 to 24 inches long when it was killed. "It didn't have eyes or a mouth but it was like screeching, making this noise. It was weird. It sounded like a little alien," she testified.
-- Former medical assistant Adrienne Moton said she killed at least 10 live-born babies herself, in addition to those murdered by Gosnell and other staffers.
-- In addition to being charged with killing seven newborns, Gosnell was also charged with killing a 41-year-old Nepal refugee who came to see him to get an illegal late-term
abortion. He was charged after a grand jury handed down a graphic, disturbing 281-page report detailing his case.
-- And don't think this man was just a poor, humble servant of the people: When they arrested him and searched his home, police investigators
found $240,000 in cash he'd squirreled away.
"Assistant District Attorneys Edward Cameron and Pescatore will present what are known as aggravating factors that they will argue warrant a death sentence," the
Inquirer reported. "Those factors will likely include evidence that Gosnell flouted abortion laws to maximize profits...regardless of the age of the fetus or the health of the mother."
Don't shed any tears for this monster. In a news cycle inundated with scandal, it's nice to report there is some justice in the world.
UPDATE: Reports May 15 said Gosnell was sentenced to life in prison.
