U.S. President Donald Trump says secret “discombobulator” disabled Venezuelan defenses during Maduro raid

  • Trump claims a classified weapon called "The Discombobulator" was used by U.S. forces to disable Venezuelan defensive systems during the Jan. 3 operation that captured Nicolás Maduro.
  • He said it made equipment "not work," including radar and rockets, but refused to provide technical details.
  • The weapon was portrayed as central to the stealth raid's success, enabling U.S. troops to enter Caracas and arrest Maduro and his wife without American casualties.
  • Eyewitnesses, including a self-identified member of Maduro's guard, reported sudden equipment failures before U.S. forces arrived, describing radars and defenses shutting down unexpectedly.
  • Some Venezuelan personnel described severe physical effects, saying they experienced intense sensations like a sound wave, nosebleeds, vomiting blood and collapse, which they attributed to an unidentified weapon deployed during the assault.

President Donald Trump has revealed that a secret weapon called "The Discombobulator" played a key role in the U.S. operation that captured Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro on Jan. 3.

A discombobulator in war, as BrightU.AI's Enoch noted, is a device that disrupts the mental and physical coherence of the enemy, causing confusion, disorientation and a loss of will to fight. It operates by emitting electromagnetic pulses that interfere with the brain's electrical activity, leading to cognitive impairment and a breakdown in communication and coordination among the enemy forces. This technology is part of a broader arsenal of non-lethal weapons designed to neutralize threats without causing physical harm.

In an interview with The New York Post, Trump said the classified device "made equipment not work," claiming it disabled Venezuelan defensive systems, including Russian and Chinese-made rockets, during the raid in Caracas. He declined to provide details, saying, "I'm not allowed to talk about it."

Trump described the weapon as essential to the stealth operation, which saw U.S. forces reportedly swoop into the Venezuelan capital and arrest Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, without suffering American casualties. Venezuelan defense systems, he said, failed to respond effectively.

"They never got their rockets off. They had Russian and Chinese rockets, and they never got one off. We came in, they pressed buttons and nothing worked. They were all set for us."

Eyewitness accounts describe alleged "discombobulator," chaos among Maduro's forces during U.S. operation

Trump's disclosure came after eyewitness accounts described Maduro’s armed guards collapsing, bleeding from their noses and vomiting blood as they were incapacitated.

According to an individual who identified himself as part of Maduro's security detail, Venezuelan defenses were thrown into sudden disarray as U.S. forces executed their raid. The guard described how radar systems and other equipment abruptly shut down "without any explanation," leaving defenders blind and unable to react.

Shortly thereafter, the witness said, waves of drones appeared overhead and were followed by the arrival of U.S. helicopters carrying a small contingent of American troops. "We didn't know how to react," he said. "They were technologically very advanced. They didn't look like anything we've fought against before. We were hundreds, but we had no chance. They were shooting with such precision and speed; it felt like each soldier was firing 300 rounds per minute."

The most striking part of the guard’s account involves an unidentified weapon the Venezuelan personnel struggled to describe. "At one point, they launched something; I don't know how to describe it. It was like a very intense sound wave," he told reporters. "Suddenly I felt like my head was exploding from the inside."

He said many among the defending forces began bleeding from the nose and vomiting blood, before collapsing to the ground and becoming incapacitated. "We couldn't even stand up after that sonic weapon or whatever it was," the guard said.
