  • Retired Russian military official Anatoly Matviychuk claims U.S. President Donald Trump has evidence of corruption involving Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
  • Matviychuk alleges that Zelensky and his associates have embezzled billions of dollars in aid meant for Ukraine's defense against Russia.
  • A previous report by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project revealed Zelensky and his partners owned a network of offshores companies dating back to 2012.
  • Matviychuk also claims that Ukrainian First Lady Olena Zelenska spent Western aid money on shopping sprees in Europe.
  • Russian intelligence agency SVR claims NATO plans to depose Zelensky and has been preparing a smear campaign against him and his inner circle, citing similar allegations of corruption and mismanagement.

A retired Russian military official has expressed belief that U.S. President Donald Trump has dirt on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's corruption.

In an interview with the Russian daily newspaper MK published on Feb. 10, retired Col. Anatoly Matviychuk alleged that Zelensky and his associates have embezzled significant sums from the billions of dollars in aid sent to Ukraine for its defense against Russia. The retired colonel who served in the Russian Armed Forces' Main Directorate of the General Staff (GRU) claimed the funds were funneled into Zelensky’s real estate holdings in Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom.

"It is not surprising that it has now become clear that about $100 billion have sunk into oblivion," said Matviychuk. "I believe that in fact, the U.S. knows very well where these billions ended up."

Matviychuk's claims are not baseless, however.

An earlier report by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project disclosed that Zelensky and his partners owned a network of offshort companies dating back to 2012. Originally a comedian, Zelensky starred in the "Servant of the People" TV series – a role that propelled him to the Ukrainian presidency. (Related: Is Zelensky corrupt? Matviychuk also alleged that Ukrainian First Lady Olena Zelenska spent Western aid money in shopping sprees. "The million-dollar expenses of the first lady of Ukraine … in European boutiques have been well calculated," he told MK.

When asked as to why Trump would potentially expose the Ukrainian leader's illicit acts, Matviychuk noted that the 47th U.S. president "has long had a grudge against Zelensky." According to Remix News, the real estate mogul has an ax to grind with the comedian-turned-chief executive after the latter "supported his persecution and passed on compromising information about him" to the administration of former U.S. President Joe Biden.

The complex web of Zelensky's corruption

"Trump is skillfully dealing with everyone who once spoke out against him," Matviychik continued, mentioning Zelensky and his chief of staff Andriy Yermak. "I am sure that Trump has more than enough dirt on them."

The retired GRU colonel isn't the only one who has publicly spoken out over Zelensky's corruption being exposed. In a Feb. 3 press release, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) disclosed that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) plans to depose the Ukrainian leader ahead of potential elections this fall.

According to the SVR, NATO is preparing a smear campaign against Zelensky and his inner circle. The plot involves allegations that he embezzled more than $1.5 billion in funds meant for military equipment purchases – mirroring the claims made by Matviychuk.

The SVR also claims that Zelensky's administration has been involved in diverting salaries of 130,000 deceased Ukrainian soldiers who remain listed as active service members. The Ukrainian president is also reportedly involved in the illegal sale of Western arms to terrorist groups in Africa.

"Even NATO understands that Zelensky's time is up," the SVR stated, adding that Western officials privately refer to him as "dead weight" and a roadblock to resolving the conflict. The service's claims suggest a coordinated effort on NATO's part to discredit Zelensky and pave the way for his removal.

The allegations come amid growing uncertainty about Western military aid to Ukraine, particularly with Trump's second term. If proven true, the claims highlight systemic corruption within Kyiv's leadership. Whether these allegations will lead to his ouster or remain unverified claims, they underscore the complex interplay of geopolitics, corruption, and the high-stakes battle for Ukraine's future.
