Ex-Secret Service agent warns Trump could face another deadly assassination attempt before his inauguration

  • Former Secret Service agent Richard Staropoli warns that President-elect Donald Trump faces unprecedented threats, including the possibility of an attack before his inauguration on Jan. 20, 2025.
  • Staropoli, who served as Trump's chief information officer of homeland security during his first term, believes the next threat could be "of a much bigger magnitude" than previous attempts, such as the assassination attempt that injured Trump during his 2024 campaign.
  • Staropoli criticizes the current state of the Secret Service, stating it is not as effective as in the past and has been "politically compromised," with reforms like drone use being unnecessary distractions from basic security protocols.
  • Staropoli questions the Secret Service's ability to protect Trump, warning that a more experienced attacker could pose a significant danger, especially in the lead-up to the inauguration.
  • Acting Director Ronald Rowe Jr. acknowledged the agency's shortcomings but outlined reforms, including hiring more personnel and using drones, which Staropoli dismisses as insufficient to address the growing threats.

Former United States Secret Service agent Richard Staropoli has warned that President-elect Donald Trump still faces grave threats and could even be attacked before his inauguration.

The threats to the personal safety of Trump are unprecedented. During his 2024 presidential campaign, Trump faced two assassination attempts, including one that injured him.

Staropoli served as a special agent in the Secret Service for over 25 years and was appointed by Trump during his first term as his chief information officer of homeland security. In an interview with "America Reports" on Fox News, he warned that Trump could face a threat "of a much bigger magnitude" than the assassination attempt that injured him before he even took office on Jan. 20, 2025. In the same interview, Staropoli also opined that he does not feel the most confident regarding the Secret Service's ability to protect Trump.

"The Secret Service that you see out there today is not the Secret Service of yesteryear. Somewhere along the line, they've completely dropped the ball," said Staropoli, who added that testimony from Secret Service officials before the House of Representatives Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald J. Trump, including by Acting Director Ronald Rowe Jr., is all "a smokescreen to cover up the shortcomings of a politically compromised agency."

Secret Service may once again fail to protect Trump

Rowe recently testified before the task force, during which he acknowledged the agency's many shortcomings and outlined the steps it is taking to enhance its security protocols, including hiring several hundred more personnel and uniformed agents and expanding the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) for reconnaissance. Staropoli criticized the latter attempt at reform as unnecessary.

"That's all great, but you need to get back to the basics," said Staropoli. "What made the Secret Service great was its ability to put human intelligence and manpower on the streets and effectively secure the environment to make it safe for the President of the United States."

"I don't see that here. As a matter of fact, I don't think I'd be alone in saying that I certainly can see something happening between now and inauguration day," he added, this time warning that it could come in the form of a much more experienced individual with a firearm, rather than the relatively amateur Thomas Matthew Crooks – who shot Trump in the ear.

"It's not going to be some 20-year-old kid on the roof of a building that's allowed to get within 100 yards," Staropoli warned. "It's going to be something of a much bigger magnitude and I don't think the Secret Service is anywhere equipped to handle that situation."
