Rep. Nancy Mace introduces bill to ban biological males from female facilities on federal property
11/26/2024 // Laura Harris // Views

South Carolina GOP Rep. Nancy Mace has introduced legislation to ban biological males from entering spaces designated for females on federal property.

On Nov. 19, Mace introduced a bill that would ban biological males from using restrooms for women in the Capitol Building. The next day, Mace proposed the Protecting Women's Private Spaces Act, another legislation that would prohibit individuals from using single-sex facilities on federal property unless they align with their biological sex.

The bill sets forth clear definitions of male and female to ensure access to restrooms, locker rooms and other single-sex facilities on federal property corresponds to one's biological sex. In other words, this bill would keep men, including those who "identify" as women, from using women's spaces, including bathrooms, locker rooms and prisons on federal property.

Mace defines federal property in her bill as "any building, land or other real property owned, leased or occupied by any department, agency or instrumentality of the United States (including the Department of Defense and the United States Postal Service) or any other instrumentality wholly owned by the United States or by any department or agency of the District of Columbia or any territory or possession of the United States." (Related: Ohio Senate passes bill that would ban males from using female locker rooms and bathrooms in schools.)

"Women and girls shouldn't have to give up their safety or privacy just because the 'Left' wants to win points with their activist base," Mace said. "This isn't controversial; it's common sense. I'm going to continue defending women and girls from these harmful, out-of-touch, and straight-up weird policies."

If passed, the Protecting Women's Private Spaces Act would mandate compliance on all federal properties, potentially setting a precedent for state-level measures.

Mace promises to "fight like hell" to protect women and girls

Criticisms from liberal lawmakers and media outlets have been swift, with some claiming the legislation singles out newly elected transgender Rep.-elect Sarah McBride (D-DE).

McBride even gave his statement and described the legislation as "a blatant attempt by far-right extremists to divert attention from their lack of real solutions to the challenges Americans are facing." He added: "We should be focused on bringing down the cost of housing, health care, and child care, not manufacturing culture wars. Delawareans sent me here to make the American dream more affordable and accessible and that's what I'm focused on."

However, Mace stood firm and defended her actions during a recent appearance on "The Michael Knowles Show."

"I'm going to do everything I can to protect women and girls here on the Hill, but also across the nation," she said during the guesting. "This is a question that needs to be answered. Do women have rights or not? Are we going to allow these men to bully us into submission? And I say, no, no more. I'm done with this. There's no amount of bullying and threats on my life that they've made this week that's going to stop me from this."

She promised to "fight like hell" for the protection of women and girls.
