Elon Musk shares video supporting Trump’s claim about migrants “eating” cats in Ohio
09/17/2024 // Belle Carter // Views

Tech mogul Elon Musk recently posted a video that supported former President and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's claims that Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio, have been killing cats for food and even for their "voodoo rituals."

A daughter of a Haitian migrant confirmed these practices in a video Musk shared on his social media platform X. The woman's father came to the United States in the 1960s. She explained that while her father did not engage in such practices, "most of the island" practices voodoo, which includes animal sacrifices often involving cats.

"This is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. You can't just go to a food bank like you can here, or just go to McDonald's and get some free or cheap food," she said. "They do animal sacrifices for their religion, voodoo. They make these animal sacrifices to these gods for different reasons."

She thinks that the religion is "demonic."

Another X user posted a video where a Jamaican man recounted his firsthand knowledge of Haitians using animals for both food and witchcraft.

"Not only are they harvesting cats for food, but also for witchcraft purposes, voodoo purposes," he said, adding that cat blood and bones are believed to bring good luck. "They consume these things because they believe it brings good luck and good juju. This is not a joke, it's a fact. This is their culture. This is what they believe. They will die on a hill on this belief."

The clips went viral on X after Trump raised the issue during the presidential debate on ABC, in which he claimed that Haitian migrants were eating pets.

Vice President Kamala Harris dismissed Trump's claim while suppressing a laugh. However, former Democratic candidate Marianne Williamson cautioned her party against dismissing these claims. In a post to X, Williamson warned that ignoring the concerns of Springfield residents could backfire on Democrats, especially as Haitian voodoo practices come to light.

"Continuing to dump on Trump because of the 'eating cats' issue will create blowback on Nov. 5. Haitian voodoo is, in fact, real, and to dismiss the story out-of-hand rather than listen to the citizens of Springfield, Ohio, confirms in the minds of many voters the stereotype of Democrats as smug elite jerks who think they're too smart to listen to anyone outside their own silo," Williamson wrote.

Trump wont debate Harris again

Meanwhile, Trump said there would be no debate repeat with Vice President Kamala Harris.

"There will be no third debate!" he posted on his Truth Social account. "When a prizefighter loses a fight, the first words out of his mouth are, 'I want a rematch.'" Trump insisted that polls showed he won the recent faceoff.

When he went to a campaign stop in Tucson, Arizona, the same day, Trump said he was successful in both the past debates and he will no longer do another one.

"Too late anyway, the voting has already begun," he added.

Shortly after Trump's post on Truth Social, Harris addressed a crowd at a rally in North Carolina, where she said she was open to another debate.

"I believe we owe it to the voters to have another debate," she said. (Related: U.S. election "Nostradamus" thinks Kamala Harris will win: But the outcome is up to you, he says.)

Meanwhile, statistics from media analytics firm Nielsen show that 67.1 million people watched the debate, which is significantly higher than the 51.3 million who saw the controversial June debate between Trump and Biden.

Surveys also suggest Trump and Harris are in an extremely tight race in the key battleground states of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin.
