NYPD: Illegal immigrants account for more than half of all arrests in New York City

The New York Police Department (NYPD) has revealed in their reports that illegal immigrants are flooding their criminal justice system as they account for more than half of the arrests in several parts of New York City.

According to recent reports, migrants account for 75 percent of arrests in Midtown Manhattan and over 60 percent in Queens, with crimes ranging from assault and robbery to domestic violence.  The police sources also disclosed that despite making up only under 10 percent of the total population of the Big Apple, illegal immigrants still represent a disproportionately high number of those arrested for crimes. In fact, court dockets are increasingly filled with asylum seekers who have violated the law.

"I would say about 75 percent of the arrests in Midtown Manhattan are migrants, mostly for robberies, assaults, domestic incidents and selling counterfeit items," one officer said.

Another Manhattan officer noted that migrants are behind many shoplifting incidents, particularly targeting high-end stores like Lululemon and Sunglass Hut.

"They like the pricey branded goods," the officer said, adding that migrants are also responsible for "most" of the pickpocketing, phone thefts and chain snatches reported by the NYPD.

This problem is also evident in Queens, with cases ranging from minor incidents like petty theft to more severe crimes, including domestic violence, gang violence and sexual assault.

"There are days we have so many migrant cases, we have to call in for extra Spanish interpreters," said a law enforcement officer at the Queens Criminal Courthouse. Another court officer said, "Come on Mondays! Almost every case is a migrant." (Related: FISCAL BURDEN: American taxpayers spent $150B last year to fund Biden's illegal immigrants.)

"Most of the people we arrest are professionals – these aren't their first crimes," one law enforcement source said. Some migrants have even become familiar faces in city jails and courtrooms, often reoffending shortly after their release.

"They don't care if they get arrested – they laugh if they get sent to Rikers. Where they come from, they get tortured in jail," a Bronx police officer said.

NYPD officials blame federal and local policies for the influx of migrant-related crimes

NYPD officials and law enforcement representatives are pointing fingers at both federal and local policies for the crisis of migrant crime.

They criticize the "open border" policies of the Biden-Harris administration and the sanctuary status of New York, which prohibits the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from cooperating in detaining illegal immigrants. Additionally, police officers are barred from asking about the immigration status of crime victims, witnesses or suspects.

"New York City eliminated a tool to get rid of violent criminals. What a mess," said Jim Quinn, a former prosecutor at the office of the Queens District Attorney. "The sanctuary city law is pathetic. It's disgusting. It's crazy."

Meanwhile, NYC Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Hendry blamed the courts for failing to take a stance against illegal immigration.

"Our justice system is already failing to protect New Yorkers and hold lawbreakers accountable, regardless of where they come from," he said. "But now word has gotten out that you can come to New York to commit crimes and attack police officers and be out the next day. That message needs to change in order to keep dangerous people off our city streets."

The lack of cooperation between NYC police and ICE makes it difficult to curb illegal immigration and accurately estimate the true extent of crimes committed by migrants.
