Documents reveal INFILTRATION by Beijing operatives in Canada’s 2019 and 2021 federal elections

Shocking documents from a federal inquiry have revealed that operatives from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) have infiltrated and even interfered in Canada's 2019 and 2021 federal elections.

According to the documents, CCP agents have served as poll workers for Elections Canada in 2021.

A sworn affidavit by former Member of Parliament (MP) Leona Alleslev of the Conservative Party of Canada, filed with the Canadian Parliament's Foreign Interference Commission (FIC), said at least half of the Chinese Canadian constituents in the Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill riding (electoral district) knew foreign operatives were operating at polling stations. Her Chinese Canadian constituents reportedly feared voting for her over potential worries about "repercussions against themselves or their family members both in Canada and in China."

The affidavit also revealed that certain individuals took the threat seriously, given that these CCP agents were monitoring polling stations to keep an eye on voters. However, Alleslev did not let Elections Canada or the Office of the Commissioner of Canada Elections know about these issues while on her campaign because of her experience with the agency's "lack of clear process, unresponsiveness and inaction on other matters." (Related: Election interference: Independent presidential candidate Cornel West says Kamala Harris tried to bribe him to drop out, offering him cash and work.)

This interference caused Alleslev to lose the 2021 election to MP Leah Taylor Roy of the Liberal Party. But she isn't alone in this predicament as other MPs have accused Elections Canada of being slow to respond to similar complaints.

The?FIC assembled to investigate the alleged interference by China, Russia and other foreign states or non-state actors, "including any potential impacts, to confirm the integrity of, and any impacts on, the 43rd and 44th general elections (2019 and 2021 elections) at the national and electoral district levels."

The commission was led by Justice Marie-Josee Hogue, who had earlier announced that she and her lawyers would remain "impartial" and would not be influenced by politics. Back in January, Hogue said she would do her best to "uncover the truth whatever it may be."

Trudeau insists Beijing interference didn't impact election results

The FIC – which is currently on break and plans to resume regular hearings this month – has reported suspicious activity in 13 ridings. Meanwhile, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau himself has praised China's "basic dictatorship," naming it as his second favorite country after Canada. In April, he told the official inquiry that the results of the last two elections were not affected despite Beijing's interference.

Trudeau has never outright said whether he was ever told by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) that CCP agents' actions were in breach of the nation's Elections Act. Several months ago, CSIS Director David Vigneault testified under oath that he warned Trudeau several times that CCP agents were targeting Conservative MPs – a claim the prime minister denied.

Back in May of this year, CSIS warned in its annual report that China used deceptive methods in its attempts to influence policy-making at all levels of government as well as in academia and the media. The security agency added that these activities, which are aimed at advancing China's national interests, can potentially "undermine Canada's democratic process and its institutions."

China continues to dismiss the charges. When asked for its comments about the CSIS report, the Chinese Embassy in Ottawa shared that "China has never and will never have any interest in interfering in Canada's internal affairs," citing a spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
