Stephen Ireland, the 40-year-old founder and director of the Pride in Surrey organization and self-proclaimed patron of the controversial LGBTQ+ charity Educate and Celebrate, has been accused of child rape, multiple sexual assaults, voyeurism, offering indecent photographs of minors and plotting kidnapping for over two years from August 2022 to July 2024.

Along with Ireland, David Sutton, 26, a former volunteer for the same organization, is also being charged with multiple sex crimes.

He faces seven additional offenses, including three counts of making indecent photographs of children; one count of possession of prohibited images of children; one count of possession of an extreme pornographic image; and two counts of distributing indecent photographs of a child.
Ireland and Sutton appeared in court on Aug. 15 after being arrested the day before.

The LGBTQ activists have been remanded into custody pending court appearance on Sept. 12.
Aside from the criminal charges, Surrey Pride disclosed that Ireland and Sutton have been suspended from the organization after they became aware of a police probe into them back in June. The organization also clarified that they were unaware of the investigation until Ireland and Sutton were charged.
"[We] have been made aware of an investigation that has been conducted involving two former volunteers, both of whom have now been charged," said the group in a statement. "On 12th June, Pride in Surrey were informed by Surrey Police of an ongoing investigation surrounding two volunteers. Both volunteers were immediately suspended from the organization. Following this, a decision was made to remove them both from the organization, as well as Stephen Ireland as a director. We were not aware of the exact nature of the crimes being investigated."
"[On Aug. 15] Pride in Surrey were made aware of the charges made against both volunteers via a social media post. We are appalled and horrified at the charges which have been brought against the two individuals," continued the statement. "We will fully cooperate with Surrey Police in any way they require. Our thoughts are with the alleged victims and their families."
