Armed Israeli settlers attack West Bank village, burning down properties and killing a young Palestinian man

A group of armed illegal Israeli settlers attacked the residents of Jit, a town east of Qalqilya in the occupied West Bank, killing a young Palestinian man.

On Aug. 15, more than 70 armed Israeli settlers stormed into Jit at around 7 p.m. local time. The masked settlers hurled rocks and Molotov cocktails, storming the city and causing extensive property damage by burning cars, homes and other properties while firing bullets and tear gas canisters at residents.

The Palestinian Health Ministry reported that the armed settlers shot a 23-year-old Palestinian named Rashid Mahmoud Abdel Qader Sadda in the chest, killing him. One video captured medics performing CPR on Sadda. Images from the aftermath show a young girl comforting the grieving mother of Sadda.

Videos of the attack show burning vehicles and flames engulfing the ground floor of a two-story building while  Palestinians desperately tried to extinguish the fires amid chaos and shouting.

Moawya Ali, a resident of Jit, quickly evacuated his five children to a nearby house when he saw the wave of armed Israeli settlers approaching his home. Upon returning, Ali witnessed around 30 settlers – armed, masked and dressed in black – jumping over his fence, breaking windows and throwing Molotov cocktails into his home. The ground floor was extensively damaged, with furniture completely hollowed out by flames and the air still thick with smoke. (Related: Israel sodomizes and kills Palestinian detainees, Candace Owens calls out silent Christians.)

Ali recounted the settlers shouting in both Arabic and Hebrew at him, declaring that they are members of Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir's "gang," and that "We are here to kill you, here to kill Arabs."

"They told us to leave, to go to Sinai, to Jordan, to Syria," added Ali. "[They said] we will come back for you and kill you."

Another resident, Mohamed Arman, was injured when settlers struck his face with a rock and torched his car. CCTV footage shows Arman confronting at least five settlers, who were armed and appeared to be prepared for the assault.

"They were prepared with weapons," Arman said, noting that the settlers had knives, M16 rifles and other firearms fitted with noise suppressors. "They came to commit a crime in the town."

International condemnation of the incident fails to quell the outrage of Jit residents and officials

Top Israeli officials and the international community have quickly disavowed and condemned the incident, but all this did little to cool the anger of Jit residents and officials.

"We have attacks but nothing to this level," said Nasser Sedda, the head of Jit village council and cousin of Rashid Sadda. "We haven't seen anything like this before, and without a prior warning. They caught the people off guard – women, children and elders were there."

Residents of Jit also stated that the assault was the most severe yet and they fear it may not be the last.

"Yesterday's event was not the first and will not be the last," said Jamal Yamin, a resident of Jit and member of the municipal committee. "But it was the most vicious." Yamin also condemned the international community for not doing anything despite knowing that the Palestinian people have no means to confront such attacks. "The world sees and hears what happens, and does nothing."

Murad Eshtewi, a spokesman for Fatah in the Qalqilya Province, stated that Israeli settler leaders have always green-lighted such violence.

"We cannot believe in the contradiction Netanyahu is now living," he said. "It sends a message to settlers that they can launch their attacks on the people of the town Jit."
