Kamala Harris promises to CLOSE all migrant detention centers and release criminal illegal aliens on Day 1 if she becomes president
08/20/2024 // Ava Grace // Views

Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, has promised to close all migrant detention centers on the first day of her presidency if she wins in November.

100 Percent Fed Up reported on this disclosure, citing a video of the presidential nominee taken during an October 2019 town hall in Iowa. An audience member asked the then-U.S. senator for California: "When you become president, would you be committing to closing the immigration detention centers?"

"Absolutely, on day one," Harris answered. "On day one."

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement defines detention centers as facilities used to hold "noncitizens who are subject to mandatory detention or those that ICE determines are a public safety or flight risk during the custody determination process." But instead of keeping Americans safe, Harris wants to set these noncitizens loose on the streets.

Several conservatives took to social media to criticize this stance by the Democrat. Commentator Collin Rugg said the anti-detention center remark "completely contradicts Harris' recent push to appear as a candidate who wants a secure border." Meanwhile, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) wrote on X: "When she tells you who she is, believe her."

Harris has said little about immigration in her recent speeches on the 2024 campaign trail. Her launch video presents her as the candidate of "freedom," highlighting issues like reproductive rights, health care access and gun violence. But the said video makes no mention of illegal immigration and border security.

Even if the vice president and her fellow Democrats refuse to acknowledge the latter two issues, they still present political pitfalls as it motivates conservatives. According to opinion polls, voters trust the Republican Party more – with former President Donald Trump and U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) as nominees – to handle them.

"Border czar" Kamala failed to address border crisis

To make things worse for Harris, vigilant users are now exposing her stint as the so-called "border czar" and her inaction toward the ongoing border crisis. This, despite the mainstream media's attempts to memory-hole this fact. (Related: Harris deceives voters with manipulated news headlines.)

Axios used the label to describe the vice president on at least three occasions in 2021, when President Joe Biden first gave her special responsibility for illegal immigration. Other media outlets, including the BBC, have also used the moniker in their articles.

"The number of unaccompanied minors crossing the border has reached crisis levels," Axios wrote in April 2021. "Harris, appointed by Biden as border czar, said she would be looking at the 'root causes' that drive migration."

But more than three years later, Axios and other media outlets have denied Harris' role in immigration and border security. The said article later came with an editor's note that said the outlet was one of many that incorrectly labeled the vice president as border czar. Despite this, Trump himself and other Republicans have highlighted this moniker.

"Harris was appointed 'border czar' in March of 2021," the real estate mogul told reporters. "Since that time, millions and millions of illegal aliens have invaded our country and countless Americans have been killed by migrant crime because of her willful demolition of American borders and laws."

Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) agreed with the former president, saying during a House hearing: "With Harris at the helm, the Biden-Harris administration made good on their promise to systematically dismantle Trump's secure border policies."
