Hillary Clinton steps in to defend Tim Walz from STOLEN VALOR claims
08/15/2024 // Ramon Tomey // Views

Failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has stepped in to defend Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, from claims of stolen valor.

"Tim Walz served honorably for two decades. Then he joined Congress and worked to pass a new GI bill that helped fund the college educations of millions of veterans," the former first lady and secretary of state posted on X Monday, Aug. 12. According to Clinton, U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) – the Republican vice presidential nominee – was one of those who benefited from Walz's bill.

The governor of the North Star State is under fire for choosing to retire from the military months before the unit he led would be deployed to Iraq. According to Breitbart News, Walz was reportedly aware of the deployment before his retirement. In contrast, Vance actually served in Iraq as a military journalist in 2005.

Walz is also facing scrutiny for exaggerating his military service. Over the last 20 years, he had been claiming that he retired with the rank of command sergeant major. But in reality, he retired one rank below.

Breitbart News noted that Clinton's post did not address both claims and likewise did not address Walz's claim that he carried weapons "in war" despite not serving in combat. As with her other posts on X, the former first lady turned off replies.

"Since Vice President Kamala Harris chose Walz as her running mate, he has been under siege with questions about his military service – which he has touted throughout his political career, beginning in 2006 when he was elected to Congress," the outlet noted. Among the various falsehoods Walz flaunted were his claim of being the highest-ranking senior enlisted to serve in Congress and his deployment to either Iraq or Afghanistan. He has implied his deployment to either of the countries on numerous locations, never correcting anyone who wrongly asserted it. But these lies can be easily debunked, given that he retired from military service before even stepping foot in Iraq.

Lying Hillary defends Lying Tim

Of the claims being thrown at the Democratic vice presidential nominee, the Harris-Walz campaign has only addressed one – that he carried weapons "in war." Walz reportedly made that claim in a video, which the campaign posted on X. That video was later deleted when the issue about the governor's military record blew up.

It is but befitting that Clinton, herself known for her false claims, defended her fellow Democrat who has been found to be deceiving the general public. In 2008, the former first lady claimed that she and her companions landed under sniper fire during a 1996 visit to the Balkan nation of Bosnia-Herzegovina. Several sources quickly debunked this claim.

"There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base," she said at the time. However, old news footage showed the opposite – the then-first lady and her daughter Chelsea were walking calmly from the plane at the country's Tuzla Air Base. She even greeted Emina Bicakcic, then eight years old, after the girl dedicated a poem to her.

Clinton later admitted that she "misspoke" about the 1996 visit to Bosnia-Herzegovina. "I say a lot of things … so if I misspoke, that was just a misstatement," she told the Philadelphia Daily News.

Former President Donald Trump brought up this claim, citing her "phony landing in Bosnia, where she said she was under attack – and the attack turned out to be young girls handing her flowers." He continued his tirade against the former secretary of state, calling "Crooked Hillary" a "world-class liar."
