The 2021 Fox News interview with Tucker Carlson featuring Vance, which recently resurfaced and went viral after Hillary Clinton shared the clip on X, has faced backlash due to his controversial comment regarding the leadership in America. In the interview, Vance criticized several prominent Democrats, including Harris, whom he called "childless cat ladies."
"We are effectively run in this country via the Democrats, via our corporate oligarchs, by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable too. How does it make any sense that we’ve turned our country over to people who don’t really have a direct stake in it?" Vance said at the time.
Harris, who does not have biological children, is a stepmother to her husband Doug Emhoff's two children, Cole, 29, and Ella, 25. Those two kids supposedly affectionately call her "Momala," and their biological mother, Kerstin Emhoff, has also defended Harris against Vance, stressing that Harris has taken on an active role in their blended family.
Prominent figures from various sectors, including actress Jennifer Aniston, also criticized Vance. Aniston, who has spoken about her fertility struggles, slammed Vance on Instagram for his stance against in vitro fertilization.
"I truly can't believe this is coming from a potential VP of The United States," Aniston wrote. "All I can say is … Mr. Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day. I hope she will not need to turn to IVF as a second option. Because you are trying to take that away from her too."
Meanwhile, Musk, known for his outspoken views on population growth and the future of humanity, entered the fray by describing Harris as an "extinctionist."
"Shamala is an extinctionist. The natural extension of her philosophy would be a de facto holocaust for all of humanity!" Musk wrote on X, using a derogatory nickname for Harris.
His comments underscore his long-standing belief that declining birth rates threaten civilization.
"It's completely the opposite," Musk stated in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. "If people don't have more children, civilization is going to crumble. Mark my words."
Vance has remained unapologetic amid the backlash and clarified that he harbors no ill will toward cats or those unable to have children.
Instead of apologizing, Vance posted a clip of Harris discussing "climate anxiety" among young people, in which she questioned whether it made sense to consider having children given the current environmental concerns. "WATCH: Resurfaced video shows Kamala Harris suggesting that young people should not have children due to climate change," Donald Trump Jr. wrote as he shared a clip of Harris' interview. "She calls climate anxiety 'the fear of the future and the unknown of whether it makes sense for you to even think about having children.'"
As a response, Vance commented: "It's almost like these people don't want young people starting families or something. Really weird stuff."
