Russia allegedly just destroyed three U.S.-made high-tech HIMARS missile systems in Ukraine

Moscow recently claimed that the Russian Armed Forces has taken out three Ukrainian High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) supplied by the United States. as well as some of the foreign military personnel assisting Kyiv in operating the missile arrays.

The Russian Defense Ministry said early this month that the systems were destroyed through the combined actions of Russian warplanes, drones, artillery and missile forces. The ministry also claimed that the attack on the U.S.-made and supplied HIMARS killed up to 10 foreign specialists tasked with maintaining the systems.

The Kremlin has refused to reveal where the HIMARS systems were destroyed and has so far refused to provide details concerning the nationalities of the alleged foreign military personnel killed at the sites. Videos of the strikes on the HIMARS systems locations have spread on Russian social media and have suggested that they might be stationed somewhere in the contested Kherson Oblast in the south of internationally-recognized Ukraine.

One black-and-white clip has spread of what appears to be aerial footage of three HIMARS arrays moving on the road before being hit by a lone powerful missile strike, causing fire and smoke to rise into the air.

This is not the first time that Russia has claimed to have destroyed a HIMARS system. In June, the Russian Defense Ministry has claimed to have destroyed a HIMARS system stationed in Ukraine's northeastern Kharkiv Oblast.

U.S.-made weapons in Ukraine being used to target civilians, Russia warns

The attacks arrived after the U.S. said in May that it was permitting Kyiv to employ American-made weapons to hit targets deep inside Russia, with Ukrainian officials confirming that the missiles were utilized to attack Russian logistics centers and artillery positions throughout the border. (Related: Russia: U.S. could face FATAL CONSEQUENCES for allowing Ukraine to use American weapons to strike Russian targets.)

Russian officials have many times charged Ukraine with using Western-made weapons to strike civilians, specifically the U.S.-made and supplied HIMARS and the long-range Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS).

In this regard, Moscow criticized Washington over weapons deliveries, claiming that in doing so, America "is encouraging Kyiv terrorists to commit new crimes."

Russia has also stated it is well aware of the presence of foreign servicemen in Ukraine, mentioning that they are seen as "legitimate targets" for Moscow's military forces.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced in late May that those foreign military personnel were sustaining casualties.

The ministry's statement on the matter also claims attacks on another 122 locations where "massed enemy manpower and military hardware" were located.

These attacks have allegedly killed hundreds of Ukrainian military personnel in the northern Sumy Oblast, in the disputed Luhansk and Donetsk Oblasts, claimed by Russia as the Luhansk People's Republic and the Donetsk People's Republic.

The attacks have also allegedly destroyed other U.S.-supplied weapons systems, including 155mm M198 howitzers, a 152mm D-20 gun howitzers, 122mm D-30 howitzers, 105mm M119 howitzers, dozens of drones and even a U.S.-made M1A1 Abrams main battle tank.
