Elon Musk pledges to donate $45 million PER MONTH to Donald Trump’s campaign

Big Tech billionaire Elon Musk has announced his intention to donate $45 million per month to the campaign fund of former President Donald Trump.

Back in March, Musk had pledged to stay out of the presidential election, refusing to endorse or contribute to the campaigns of any nominee. But this pledge was overturned just minutes after the assassination attempt against Trump, as he posted on X his endorsement and hopes for the former president's speedy recovery. "I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery," Musk posted on Saturday, July 13, sharing a video of Trump raising his fist after being shot. "Last time America had a candidate this tough was Theodore Roosevelt."

Two days later, after Trump announced that Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) would be his running mate, Musk posted his congratulations, calling it an "excellent decision" by the former president.

Musk has become the first major tech leader and owner of a social media platform to endorse a presidential candidate.

Musk and Trump have been meeting more frequently in recent months and have become very friendly. Trump himself has acknowledged a project by Musk to organize an anti-voter fraud program and is reportedly considering an advisory role for Musk in a potential second Trump administration. Musk has donated $100,000 to a GoFundMe page authorized by Trump to help the victims of Saturday's assassination attempt and their families.

Musk to redirect campaign donations to pro-Trump super PAC

Musk has indicated that his $45 million a month commitment will be funneled through America PAC, a new super political action committee backing Trump's run. Other backers of the group include Joe Lonsdale, co-founder of software company Palantir Technologies, billionaire entrepreneurs Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, former United States Ambassador to Canada Kelly Craft and her husband, Joe Craft, CEO of coal company Alliance Resource Partners. The group has already spent at least $6.6 million on behalf of Trump's campaign.

Founded just last month, America PAC has been focused on registering voters and persuading voters in swing states to vote early and request mail-in ballots and submit them on time.

An America PAC insider who spoke with the Wall Street Journal noted that the super PAC had assessed how successful the Democrats have historically been with their "get out the vote" campaigns and took note of how much money the campaign of President Joe Biden has dedicated to on-the-ground "get out the vote" efforts in swing states. America PAC's finances will be dedicated to countering this.

America PAC's most recent filing indicates that it has received $8.75 million in contributions. Musk's $45 million-per-month commitment to the super PAC will reportedly begin in July.

Furthermore, Musk's donations would be the biggest known donations to any presidential campaign in American history. If Musk keeps his word, he will end up spending at least $180 million by the end of the campaign, or $225 million if Musk also decides to donate $45 million in November. It should be noted that this is still a very minuscule amount compared to Musk's fortune, which exceeds $250 billion.

Before Musk, the largest known donation of the 2024 election cycle came from the great-grandson of businessman and banker Thomas Mellon, the founder of Mellon Bank, who donated $50 million to a pro-Trump super PAC.

The sudden influx of funding will allow America PAC to hire hundreds of employees for its "get out the vote" efforts, and it has reportedly already been seeing great success registering voters, having conversations with voters in swing states and urging others to request mail-in ballots and take advantage of other early voting options.
