Speaking to RT, Krapivnik emphasized the significant challenges that the U.S. military would face in such a scenario, highlighting its current inadequacy for engaging in a conventional war with Russia.
Drawing parallels to the Cold War era, Krapivnik noted that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's primary objective at the time was to deter Soviet aggression rather than launch a full-scale ground assault. He pointed out that even during that period, the U.S. Army lacked the capability to directly confront the Soviet Union on the battlefield. Krapivnik attributed the decline in Western warfighting capabilities to the extensive military interventions undertaken by the U.S. in recent decades. He highlighted the toll of prolonged guerrilla warfare on American forces, stating that it has significantly eroded their readiness for conventional conflicts, despite ongoing efforts to strengthen military capabilities.
Regarding recent reports suggesting the possibility of President Joe Biden deploying U.S .troops to Ukraine if reelected, Krapivnik criticized the idea as divorced from reality. He expressed skepticism about the Biden administration's grasp of the pragmatic considerations involved, warning of the potential dire consequences for US military personnel if such a deployment were to occur.

In Krapivnik's view, any attempt to send U.S. troops to Ukraine would likely result in a devastating defeat for the American military. He stressed the importance of acknowledging the harsh realities of military engagement and urged against reckless decision-making that could endanger the lives of U.S. service members.
The Russian government has expressed similar statements in its warnings against the U.S. and NATO deploying combat personnel to Ukraine.
On Wednesday, May 8, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov was asked during a press conference to comment on a petition posting on the official government website of Ukraine's presidency calling for NATO troops from the U.S., the United Kingdom and the European Union to be sent to Ukraine.
In response, Peskov told reporters that such a move would pose a "huge danger" for the world.
"[The] Kyiv regime is quite unpredictable," he added. "We have repeatedly said that direct intervention in this conflict on the ground by militaries of NATO countries poses a huge danger, a huge danger. Therefore, we consider this an extremely defiant provocation, no less. And of course we are watching this very closely."
Earlier on the same day, Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Maria Zakharova told reporters that any French soldiers would immediately be targeted by the Russian Armed Forces. This comes after French President Emmanuel Macron said that such a deployment could not be ruled out if Russian troops broke through Ukrainian frontlines.
"It is characteristic that Macron himself explains this rhetoric with a desire to create some kind of 'strategic uncertainty' for Russia. We have to disappoint him – for us, the situation looks more certain. We, too, have already decided a long time ago," she said. "If the French appear in the conflict zone, they will inevitably become targets for the Russian Armed Forces."
