Iran threatens larger attack if Israel doesn’t back off with its aggression
04/18/2024 // Ethan Huff // Views

If Israel proceeds with another attack on Iran, Tehran is promising to launch an even greater retaliation than the one that occurred over the weekend, new reports indicate.

"Our response will be much larger than tonight's military action if Israel retaliates against Iran," stated Iranian armed forces chief of staff Maj. Gen. Mohammad Bagheri to state television.

As Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vows to achieve victory in his endeavors against Israel's neighbors, Iran is warning the United States that American military bases will be targeted if Washington backs any Israeli retaliation against Iran.

On Saturday going into Sunday, Iran launched more than 300 drones and missiles at Israel following Israel's bombing of the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria. Most of the drones and missiles were intercepted, but Israel spent and arm and a leg defending itself compared to what Iran spent launching the attack.

Iran is saying it has no further plans to attack Israel unless Israel continues to escalate the situation, which the Netanyahu regime has already said it plans to do in the coming days.

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has stated emphatically that its response to any further provocation by Israel will be "limited" and for self-defense purposes only.

"At this point, the Islamic Republic of Iran has no intention of continuing defensive operations, but if necessary, it will not hesitate to protect its legitimate interests against any new aggression," Amirabdollahian wrote on X.

Israel promising "significant response"

Netanyahu, meanwhile, is beating the war drums once again with promises of further aggression against Iran when the time is right.

"We intercepted, we repelled, together we shall win," Netanyahu declared following Iran's retaliatory attack on Israel.

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant further promised that Israel's military campaign against Iran is not over, and that Tehran must prepare for every possible scenario as anything could happen next.

When the time is "right," Israeli Knesset member Benny Gantz further promised, a regional coalition will be constructed to exact a price from Iran.

Israel's Channel 12 TV also cited an unnamed Israeli official who promised a "significant response" to the attack as Netanyahu consulted with his war cabinet.

Save for a few Iranian missiles that struck the Nevatim Airbase in southern Israel, the rest of Iran's 300-plus drone and rocket attack was intercepted outside of Israel's airspace, protecting the Jewish state against damage and casualties.

Lebanon's Hezbollah also fired rockets at an Israeli base overnight, Hezbollah being Iran's most powerful ally in the region. Israel reportedly struck a Hezbollah site inside Lebanon the morning after the Iranian attack.

Tehran is said to be closely watching Jordan to see how it responds to these attacks. If it sides with Israel, Jordan could become the next Iranian target.

The Iranian attack on Saturday represents the first time ever that Iran has struck Israel directly.

President Biden reportedly stated he would convene a meeting of the leaders of the Group of Seven, a cohort of major world economies, to coordinate a diplomatic response to what he described as Iran's brazen attack.

Secretary of State Antony Blink said the U.S. will "not seek escalation" on any front and will hold talks with its allies in the coming days.

As for Israel, the Jewish state is petitioning the United Nations (UN) Security Council to condemn Iran's attack. Israel wants the UN to officially designate Iran's Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization following the attack.
