Trump LEADS Biden by 8 points in latest Rasmussen Reports poll
04/09/2024 // Laura Harris // Views

Former President Donald Trump has an eight-point lead against incumbent President Joe Biden, according to the results of a recent Rasmussen Reports poll. The poll surveyed 1,099 likely voters between March 31 and April 2. It found that 49 percent of respondents support Trump while 41 percent support Biden.

Moreover, it revealed that despite the presence of third-party candidates, Trump still leads Biden. (Related: Biden and Trump set for historic rematch after primaries.)

Forty-five percent of respondents support Trump compared to 38 percent for Biden. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. (RFK Jr.), Cornel West and Jill Stein collectively captured 12 percent of respondents' support.

The Rasmussen Reports poll also revealed Trump's unexpected appeal among groups that traditionally lean Democratic. In head-to-head matchups, Trump secures a significant portion of the Black vote with 48 percent compared to 39 percent for Biden. The former president also leads among Hispanic voters with 48 percent supporting him, in contrast with Biden's 37 percent.

Trump consistently ahead of Biden in major polls

Meanwhile, an aggregate poll by RealClearPolitics for the 2024 general election reflected Trump's lead. The said aggregate poll, which averaged surveys conducted from March 21 to April 5, showed Trump leading Biden, 46.5 percent to 45.5 percent – his smallest advantage since January.

Based on recent surveys conducted by different polling organizations, a consistent pattern emerges –with Trump holding a slight advantage over Biden in most cases. Moreover, recent national and battleground state public opinion polls consistently show Trump garnering more backing among Black and Hispanic voters than any Republican nominee in over six decades.

A flurry of polls released by reputable outlets such as the New York Times/Siena College, NBC News, Wall Street Journal, CBS News/YouGov and CNBC found Trump getting 20 percent to 28 percent support among Black voters and 45 percent to 48 percent among Hispanic voters. The results paint a stark contrast to his 2020 performance, where he only secured 12 percent from Black voters and 32 percent from Hispanic voters.

Meanwhile, a CNBC poll released on March 26 showed Biden drawing just 57 percent of all voters of color, compared to 71 percent in the 2020 exit poll.

The trend extends to key swing states, where Biden's support among non-White voters has seen a noticeable decline compared to the 2020 election. CNN/SSRS polls in Michigan and Pennsylvania show Biden drawing only 55 percent and 69 percent of non-White voters, respectively, down from approximately 80 percent in 2020.

Marist College polls in Georgia and North Carolina also indicate a decrease in Black voter support for Biden, while a Fox News Poll in Arizona reveals a significant drop in Hispanic support. Even in Wisconsin, where Biden secured over 90 percent of Black voters in 2020, recent polls suggest a decline to just over 60 percent.

The consistency of Trump's lead in most recent polls suggests that the race remains highly competitive and could go either way as the 2024 presidential election in November approaches.
