Roy "Trey" Farmer, a former "piano prodigy," holds a bachelor's degree in classical philosophy from Princeton, a Master in Philosophy degree from Yale University and a Master in Education at Harvard University.
Farmer previously sat on the board of the New York Philharmonic and is a former president of Princeton's Glee Club Foundation, with memberships at Princeton Internships in Civic Service and Princeton of Southwest Florida organizations.
This once-celebrated pillar of the LGBTQ community within Princeton and academia now faces one count of third-degree possession of child sexual abuse material following an investigation by prosecutors in Mercer County, New Jersey. (Related: Transgender pedophile arrested for production, distribution and possession of child pornography.)
Mercer County authorities opened its investigation following a tip from the Virginia-based National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. This then led to a raid on Farmer's condo near the main entrance of Princeton, wherein police reportedly discovered "multiple items of evidentiary value" during the search operations which, in turn, led to Farmer's arrest.
Prosecutors are currently keeping Farmer detained at Mercer County Jail pending further legal proceedings.
Farmer is not the first – and likely not the last – LGBTQ activist accused of sex crimes involving minors.

In March, Darius "Shangela" Pierce, a drag queen who attended a pride month event with Vice President Kamala Harris in 2022, faced accusations of sexual assault and rape from five young men. Four out of the five men said Pierce sexually assaulted them and attempted to engage in sexual activity with them when they were too intoxicated to give consent. Meanwhile, the fifth person alleged that Pierce attempted anal penetration in a bathroom closet despite rejection.
The victims, all between the ages of 18 and 32, stated they were out drinking with Pierce before the incident happened in 2012 and 2018 in the United States and the United Kingdom.
Pierce has faced similar accusations with an HBO production assistant named Daniel McGarrigle and a 27-year-old identified only as Helmer. The rape cases happened in different years but followed similar patterns. However, the victims believed they lacked evidence to report the incident to authorities.
In January, Gerad Slayton, a former executive director of the Rainbow Resource Center, was among more than a dozen men arrested in a sting operation targeting online predators attempting to solicit sex with minors.
The months-long operation, led by the Turlock Police Department, targeted online predators using internet chat rooms to arrange sexual encounters with minors. Seventeen men, primarily from Stanislaus and Merced counties, were arrested after engaging in conversations with undercover officers posing as underage children.
