The GOP congressman made this revelation during an interview with Tucker Carlson and warned that individuals within the Deep State, embedded in the federal government, used the FBI assets to orchestrate the J6 events to ensnare thousands of former President Donald Trump's supporters. A former police officer, Higgins claimed that federal authorities employed undercover agents and informants to deliberately incite a riot, and paint Trump supporters as violent insurrectionists.
Higgins, who serves on the Committee on Homeland Security and the Committee on Oversight and Reform, asserted that the number of FBI undercover assets operating in the crowd was "easily 200 … embedded into groups that entered the Capitol or provoked entry of the Capitol."
"Their objective was to destroy the entire MAGA movement to forever stain the patriotic fervor that was associated with the America First MAGA movement that had won in 2016 and we believe won again in 2020," asserted Higgins, discussing the alleged motives of the Deep State.
This is not the first instance Higgins has made such accusations. In November 2023, he questioned FBI Director Christopher Wray about footage depicting "nefarious" buses near the Capitol on January 6, purportedly carrying "FBI informants dressed as Trump supporters" who allegedly played a role in inciting the crowd.
In a recent conversation with investigative journalist Laura Loomer, Higgins expressed his belief that "senior officials at the FBI were deeply involved" in the plan to infiltrate fake Trump supporters into the J6 crowd.
Concluding his interview with Carlson, Higgins urged GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson to "fully release" the security footage from January 6, emphasizing that the American people should witness what he claims to have already learned, to their horror.
During his interview with Carlson, Higgins noted the fact that there were 200 FBI agents in the crowd at the Capitol on J6 is a "conservative estimate."
"Given the scope of the operation, and the number of doors where entry was allowed or even encouraged and the number of people that were actually outside the Capitol and that entered, we believe 200 is a conservative number," said Higgins.
And this massive FBI deployment on J6 seems to have borne fruit. On Friday, a day before the second anniversary of the J6 incident, Attorney General Merrick Garland said during a Department of Justice press conference that the federal government had charged more than 1,250 people for alleged crimes in connection with the Capitol incident. Nearly 900 of these people have already been found guilty – and many of them are being given lengthy prison sentences.
He called the J6 incident an "unprecedented attack on the cornerstone of our system of government – the peaceful transfer of power from one administration to the next."
During another press conference, FBI Director Christopher Wray evaded answering questions regarding the alleged involvement of FBI agents in the pro-Trump crowd at the Capitol. He similarly evaded answering such questions before a congressional hearing, saying "You should not read anything into my decision not to share information on confidential human sources."
