U.S. government has spent $4.1B in taxpayer money for LGBT initiatives worldwide over the past three fiscal years

Approximately $4.1 billion in federal funding, sourced from taxpayers, has been allocated to support LGBT initiatives within the U.S. and across the globe in the past three fiscal years, according to a comprehensive investigation by the Epoch Times.

This expenditure was observed from Oct. 1, 2020, to Sept. 30, 2023, during which time the U.S. government distributed over 1,100 grants to finance projects that promote LGBT causes worldwide, as confirmed through an analysis of a federal spending portal.

The range of these initiatives is quite diverse.

Notable examples include a grant of $1.8 million awarded last year to the LGBT Life Center in Norfolk, Virginia, to establish a "safe space for LGBTQ youth and adults to seek support and resources."

Another initiative that garnered support was a proposal to foster "diversity, equity, and inclusion in Serbia's workplaces and business communities by promoting economic empowerment and opportunities for LGBTQI+ individuals in Serbia," for which the U.S. government allocated a $500,000 grant to the Serbian activist group Grupa Izadji. Furthermore, the Pink Human Rights Defender, an Armenian activist group, received $1 million from the U.S. to "empower the LGBTI community" in Armenia, a small nation neighboring Turkey.

The federal spending portal allows filtering for specific keywords, such as "LGBT." Using this keyword, 1,181 grants, 31 loans and nine direct payments related to LGBT initiatives were identified over the past three fiscal years.

Among these grants associated with the keyword "LGBT," the cumulative payout for individual grants of at least $1 million surpassed $3.7 billion. Additional smaller grants were also disbursed to support various LGBT projects.

A more specific keyword, "transgender," yielded 574 grant entries, with individual grants of at least $1 million totaling nearly $478 million.

LGBT-related grants vary in size

An independent researcher, who wishes to remain anonymous, has been closely monitoring the allocation of federal funds for gender ideology-related grants. This endeavor began when he lost his job in the oil field during the early stages of the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

He expressed his shock after discovering that while he and his friends received limited relief from the federal government, substantial taxpayer funds flowed into LGBT activist causes. "I just couldn't believe it," he said as he shared his findings on social media under the username Randoland.us.

One project funded by the Department of Education entails a grant to Emory University to study "the rectal mucosal effects of cross-sex hormone therapy among U.S. and Thai transgender women."

This research project, initiated in 2019 with an expected completion date of July 2024, is set to receive nearly $3.5 million from the U.S. government.

Some smaller grants focus on studies exploring specific aspects of the population. For instance, one recipient examines the effects of alcohol on intimate partner violence in transgender and non-gender-conforming adults.

In 2023, a project received nearly $350,000 from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to translate the "Homosaurus" – a thesaurus of LGBT terms – into Spanish. The Homosaurus website includes definitions for sexual terms and has reclassified certain words as "fetishes."

LGBT cultural projects in the U.S. that received funding encompassed a wide array of initiatives, including more than $333,000 for an LGBT radio and television "digitization and access project" and $324,000 to map "historical LGBTQ spaces through gay travel guides."

Additionally, one grant allocated $1 million to Outright Action, an American activist group dedicated to global LGBT advocacy operating in various countries worldwide.

Government-directed LGBT grants to American schools included $1.4 million to Boston College to study "mechanisms of health promotion in diverse youth through gay-straight alliances," which aimed to promote gay-straight alliance clubs in Massachusetts middle and high schools.

This distribution of federal funds to impact the culture and environment in American public schools has been met with concerns from critics, who assert that it amounts to ideological influence.

According to Tiffany Justice, co-founder of Moms for Liberty, the government-funded activist groups are leading the ideological transformation of schools, contradicting the preferences of most Americans.

A recent poll by the organization indicated that over 70 percent of Americans desire the teaching of fundamental educational skills in schools and object to the inclusion of gender ideology or sexual orientation instruction in classrooms.
