In an appalling development, the Biden administration has been ordering Border Patrol agents to cut the fences at the borders to let illegal immigrants into the country against the wishes of Texas and other state governments.
In a video posted on X by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a border patrol agent can be seen cutting through a barbed wire fence and lowering a rope to let immigrants into the country. The razor wire was originally set up by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to keep illegal immigrants out, and their efforts are being completely undermined by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) under the direction of President Biden.
In fact, the Biden administration’s relocation of more national guard and border agents to these areas indicates they want to help migrants continue to enter the country while stopping state governments from doing anything to protect their borders.
In an interview with Fox News, Lt. Chris Olivarez of the Texas Department of Public Safety said the video was the first time he had seen something like this. While he had high praise for the Border Patrol and noted that they were likely just following orders, the move completely undermines their efforts to keep the border secure.
Moreover, it is a safety issue; the wire along the river was meant as a deterrent so people wouldn’t hurt themselves trying to make it into the country that way and redirect them to a safer port of entry.
He said he does not think this was the act of a rogue agent; instead, these agents have no choice but to follow orders that came from Washington, D.C.
Once they make it across the river, border control might be obligated to process immigrants and let them in, but the state intends to continue to make it more challenging and deter mass migration to protect vulnerable populations like children from dangerous crossings.
Unfortunately, the result of letting in so many people will be a surge in crime and poverty, while the country’s homelessness problem will only get worse.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott has called out the Biden administration for the brazen act. Writing on X, he complained: “Texas installed razor wire in Eagle Pass to stop illegal crossings. Today the Biden Admin CUT that wire, opening the floodgates to illegal immigrants."
"I immediately deployed more Texas National Guard to repel illegal crossings & install more razor wire."
Abbott has also said that Biden’s policies are causing “an invasion at our border.”
Texas has also been fighting the government over a buoy barrier it installed in the Rio Grande to deter immigrants as part of Abbott’s Operation Lone Star. The Department of Justice sued Texas over the barrier in July, claiming that it impeded “the navigable capacity of waters of the United States” and posed public safety and humanitarian concerns. A federal judge instructed the state to move them, but the decision was stayed by the U.S. Court of Appeals and the case is still making its way through the court system.
Olivarez emphasized that many of those crossing the border are criminals, cartel gunmen and suspected terrorists and blamed the government for making it harder to keep these people out.
“Another challenge we have to face is not only going after criminal organizations and trying to deter illegal immigration, but now we are having to go against our own government trying to stop us to try to put some type of deterrent measure in place to prevent unauthorized border crossings,” he said.
During fiscal year 2023, more than 1.6 million illegal immigrants have been encountered at the border between the U.S. and Mexico, and if the Biden administration gets its way, that number will only continue to rise. Given the tendency for those who rely on government handouts to vote for Democrats, letting these people in and putting them and their families on the path to voter eligibility will help them increase their voter base dramatically.
