In a letter posted on social media, School Principal Rebecca Irwin Kennedy addressed the parents of grade three students about the exclusive reinforcement of COVID-19 protocols in their classroom.
"Three or more individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 in [redacted] class in the past 10 days. We are taking the following steps to keep our school environment as safe as possible for in-person teaching and learning," Kennedy said in the letter.
Third graders will be required to wear masks at all times, except when eating and drinking, to prevent further transmission of the virus within the school. The masks will be mandatory for students and staff in the affected classes or activities for the next 10 days since the announcement on Sept. 10.
The mask mandate will revert to being optional once the 10-day period elapsed. This means that the mask mandate in school could make a comeback for an extended period, perhaps depending on how the parents would react to it.
Kennedy also announced that at-home rapid test kits will be sent home to students, and encouraged parents to watch for COVID-19 symptoms. The guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was also included in the letter, suggesting that testing should be conducted "five days after an exposure (starting day six)," or when symptoms manifest.
However, Outkick founder Clay Travis condemned the move in a post: "This is why all the people who keep saying, 'Why do you care?' about people in masks are so wrong. These mask zealots want to force you and your kids to wear them again. This is their goal. They must be ridiculed and defeated. We have to win this battle once and for all."
COVID-19 protocols are making a comeback
In a related incident in August, Morris Brown College also announced a mandatory two-week mask policy when COVID-19 cases started to boom among students in the Atlanta University Center.
According to the memo sent to the students and faculty, the institution outlined the reinstatement of mask-wearing, social distancing, quarantine, isolation, contact tracing and temperature checks over the next two weeks. Additionally, school events and large gatherings, including parties, have been banned on campus for the duration of the policy.
Meanwhile, Lionsgate studio in Los Angeles also reinstated an immediate implementation of mandatory mask mandates due to the "rising COVID cases in Los Angeles" in that same week. In an email, the studio explained that several employees tested positive for COVID-19. So, all employees with any travel history 10 days after the announcement or symptoms of infection should have mandatory quarantine.
And this reinstatement of COVID-19 protocols does not stop in private institutions. Even the White House released its official statement regarding the issue: The Biden administration plans to encourage all Americans to receive a booster shot for COVID-19 in the coming autumn to counteract a potential new wave of infections.
These announcements from different institutions in the U.S. were happening amid a growing narrative across the mainstream media that COVID-19 protocols, including mask mandates, are slowly making their comeback due to a highly mutated variant known as B.2.86. And whether it is a coincidence or not, Human Events staff writer Erin Elmore has a point: The reinstatement of mask mandates and COVID-19 protocols are "eerily similar to the 'two weeks to slow the spread' narrative that was promulgated at the beginning of the COVID-19 lockdowns."
