For Eddie Scarry, the D.C. columnist of the Federalist, rival politicians publicly denouncing President Joe Biden's immigration policies are expected, however, Adams is a Democrat.
In the said footage that was shared multiple times on X, formerly Twitter, Adams spoke about the unabated stream of migrants sent to his city via Texas Gov. Greg Abbott's migrant busing program. He said these asylum seekers get the privilege of bathing, clothing, feeding and housing them all at the local taxpayers' expense. "Let me tell you something New Yorkers, never in my life have I had a problem that I did not see an ending to – I don't see an ending to this," the mayor said on Wednesday night in his opening remarks at a town hall meeting last week in the Upper West Side neighborhood of Manhattan. "This issue will destroy New York City."
According to him, this money doesn't get to be spent on things like homeless shelters, police, and more public services that would otherwise go to actual Americans and legal residents. He also expressed frustration that the administration of Biden has just allowed the influx of 110,000 asylum seekers from the southern border.

Adams has been criticizing the president as well as Gov. Kathy Hochul for failing to help the city handle the illegals and pleaded for additional funding and expedited work permits, pointing out last week that the city's requests were still mostly "unaddressed" and calling for a federal emergency and a national "decompression strategy at the border."
We have a $12 billion deficit that we're going to have to cut," the mayor said. "Every service in this city is going to be impacted." But what he said thereafter was even more urgent. "They're destroying New York City. It's going to come to your neighborhoods. All of us are going to be impacted by this. … The city we knew, we're about to lose."
The surge of migrants crossing the border has overwhelmed NYC, with nearly 60,000 occupying beds in traditional city shelters and in more than 200 emergency sites, according to the New York Times. Adam's office said that more than 110,000 asylum seekers have arrived in the city since the spring of 2022. "We're getting no support on this national crisis," he said. However, the Hill reported that Adams already received around $140 million in federal funding for shelters, more than any other city not on the southwest border.
Meanwhile, some GOP leaders have increasingly used this criticism of Biden as a talking point ahead of the 2024 presidential election. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy even quoted Adams in a statement that argued that the "Biden Border Crisis is hurting the country." And he thinks that Mayor Adams is right. "New York City deserves better," McCarthy said.
Former Republican Vice President Mike Pence also lauded the New York mayor, who's been willing to call out Biden and his administration for their absolute failure to secure the southern border.
Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott slammed Adams for his recent "whines" over the surge of illegals in his city, saying that the Big Apple chief "could not last a week in Texas."
During an appearance on Fox News's "Jesse Watters Primetime," the Texan reacted to Adams recently calling him a "madman" for busing migrants to New York. "When I first heard that, I thought about Frank Sinatra singing 'New York, New York,' when he's saying, 'If I can make it here, I can make it anywhere,'" he said. "Well, the mayor may have made it to be mayor of New York, but he could not last a week in Texas. They have so few migrants in New York compared to what we deal with every single day."
The governor began busing migrants last spring in an effort to protest border policies by sending migrants to so-called sanctuary cities. "What's maddening is the fact that in New York and Chicago and D.C. and Los Angeles and other places, they put out policies self-proclaiming that they are sanctuary cities, and they love to promote these liberal ideologies until they have to actually live up and apply them," he said. "It's clear that the policies of sanctuary cities and letting everybody live for free simply do not work." Abbott said that as of last week, the Lone Star State has bused more than 35,000 migrants to sanctuary cities, including more than 13,300 to New York.
