Falun Gong founder: COVID-19 resurgence in China targeting top ChiCom Party officials

The resurgence of the Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) in China is mainly targeting top officials of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), according to the founder of the Falun Gong spiritual practice.

Falun Gong founder Li Hongzhi told the Epoch Times on Aug. 26 that the latest EG5 strain is directed at the CCP and those who blindly follow, defend and give their lives to it. He said: "When humans become corrupt in their hearts, they will generate karma, fall sick and suffer calamities."

"A pandemic like the current [one] … has come with a purpose and with a target. It has come to eliminate the followers of the evil [CCP] and those who go along with [it]."

The Falun Gong founder advised people to "stay far away from the evil CCP and don't align with [it]. Because what lies behind it is the red demon. Its behavior and actions are thuggish, and it stops at no evil."

Li's remarks came more than three years after the city of Wuhan in China's central Hubei province became the ground zero of the COVID-19 pandemic. The disease recently returned to the mainland, with infections fueled by the EG5 strain. Many top-ranking CCP members are suffering and dying from the disease, despite their special access to medical care and drugs that ordinary Chinese citizens cannot reach.

Dozens of Chinese officials, senior executives, prominent academics and scientists – some in their 20s and 30s – have succumbed to the latest COVID-19 wave. Recent obituaries of prominent figures published by Chinese media, state-owned entities and universities have highlighted their CCP affiliations.

This wasn't the first time Li commented on the COVID-19 pandemic in China. In January, he disclosed that more than 400 million have died in the communist country and that the CCP has been covering up the true situation in China. In March 2020, Li said plagues are inevitable when moral values deteriorate.

Zero-COVID had disastrous outcome for the mainland

"Over the past three-and-a-half years, the world has learned to live with the virus. China's ruling regime [meanwhile] aggressively pursued its draconian 'zero-COVID' campaign aimed at eliminating every potential case," the Epoch Times noted. (Related: Zero-COVID policy having severe effects on Chinese economy.)

"In China, almost everyone has joined a [CCP-affiliated] organization at some point in their life. Demonstration of loyalty to the [CCP] is a necessary condition for holding a position of authority."

One cannot help but wonder if the events in China serve as just desserts for the CCP's oppression of Falun Gong adherents. The discipline, rooted in traditional Chinese beliefs on moral and spiritual development, gained an estimated 100 million adherents in China by 1999.

But the Chinese government under then-paramount leader Jiang Zemin ordered a violent persecution of Falun Gong adherents, fearing that its popularity could outshine that of the CCP. Succeeding leaders have continued this persecution, causing the deaths of an untold number of practitioners. Under current paramount leader Xi Jinping, Falun Gong adherents are often imprisoned and subjected to organ harvesting.

U.S.-based analyst Heng He asserted that China's COVID-19 death toll vastly exceeds that of any other country during the height of the pandemic. He also noted that throughout China's history, natural disasters have tended to surge around a time when the nation was experiencing a dynastic change.

"In traditional Chinese culture, there's a prevalent belief that disasters are a reflection of the state of morality," Heng said, citing an instance during the 1640s.

Bubonic plague hit the reigning Ming Dynasty at the time, wiping out hundreds of thousands of people and contributing to the collapse of the dynasty. The epidemic disappeared when the Manchus took over and ushered in the Qing Dynasty, the last imperial era.

According to Heng, the current situation in China mirrors this historic example. "The CCP's rule, from what I see, is approaching its end," Heng said.
