NOTHING NEW HERE: Poll shows 52% of Americans DISAPPROVE of Biden
08/18/2023 // Ramon Tomey // Views

A new survey has revealed that 52 percent of respondents – more than half – disapprove of how President Joe Biden is doing his job as the chief executive.

The survey conducted by National Public Radio (NPR) and Marist College polled 1,220 adults between Aug. 11 and Aug. 14. It found that 52 percent of all adult respondents disapprove of Biden's performance. In contrast, only 41 percent of overall adult respondents say Biden is doing his job well.

The president's disapproval rating was more pronounced along party lines. An overwhelming majority of respondents who identified as Republicans – 91 percent – are dissatisfied with his work. The same sentiment was seen in respondents who identified as independent, with 55 percent expressing dissatisfaction with Biden's performance.

Bryan Richardson of the DC Enquirer put in his two cents about the poll revealing strong disapproval against the incumbent president.

"It's easy to see why," he wrote. "While [former President Donald] Trump sought to Make America Great Again (MAGA), Biden has done nothing to help the American people. While we had a strong border under Trump, we have open border extremists running things with the Biden administration in charge. While Trump patriotically sought to promote our American values, Biden has propagated woke ideology from the highest office in the land."

Richardson also zoomed in on the dismal approval Biden received from both independents and GOP voters. His 91 percent disapproval rating from the latter was "scary … for a president who is looking to score his second term." Meanwhile, Biden's 55 percent disapproval rating from independent voters – who Richardson described as "the bread and butter of big Democratic wins in the past" – should be a call for the president to "improve these numbers."

Despite the dissatisfaction toward Biden, the NPR-Marist poll found that he has a one-point lead of 47 percent against Trump's 46 percent if the 2024 elections were held at that moment.

Separate poll shows Trump with HUGE lead against other GOP candidates

A separate article by Richardson dated Aug. 17 expounded on another poll, this time by business intelligence company Morning Consult. The survey conducted between Aug. 11 and Aug. 13 found that Trump has a huge lead against other GOP presidential candidates with 51 percent.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was a distant second to Trump with 16 percent. Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy landed in third place with nine percent, while Trump's former Vice President Mike Pence landed in fourth place with seven percent.

Three candidates – former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) – sat at fifth place in the Morning Consult poll with three percent each. The sixth place was also occupied by three candidates – former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, former North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and Miami Mayor Francis Suarez – with one percent each.

Noting the 41-point gap between the former president and the Florida governor, Richardson wrote: "While DeSantis is a popular governor and has achieved profound success in the Sunshine State, his campaign has yet to generate the momentum necessary to make the race competitive."

The Morning Consult poll also found that Trump "is viewed favorably by 76 percent of [GOP] voters." DeSantis and Ramaswamy also shared that favorable view among the voter base, with 65 percent and 55 percent approval ratings, respectively.

"Even with recent indictments, Trump has managed to be a unifying figure for [the GOP] and voters are rallying around the 45th president in record numbers. As such, [he] is in as strong of a position with [GOP] voters as ever. Trump is still the decisive leader in the [GOP] field, and he and his campaign show no signs of slipping up," Richardson wrote. (Related: Poll: 55% of independents find Trump’s indictment politically motivated – because IT IS.)

"The MAGA movement is thriving, and [GOP] voters continue to appreciate Trump's America First vision for the nation at large. If other [candidates] want to bridge the gap between them and Trump, they will need to change their strategy big league."
