He told news anchor Poppy Harlow during an Aug. 10 interview that President Joe Biden "hasn't made a decision yet on declaring a national emergency on climate." Kirby continued: "But, for all intents and purposes, he's treating this with all the due gravity and the seriousness that the climate crisis deserves. It's been a focus for him since day one."
"All I can tell you is that, as an administration, we're going to stay focused on the climate crisis. It is front and center. It is right in front of us. And these wildfires and all the severe storms that we're – that we continue to see are definitely caused as a result of what's going on in the rising temperature across the globe. And so, we've got to treat this seriously."
Critics deem this as "laying down the groundwork," a move to condition Americans' minds of the impending climate emergency announcement. Biden's administration has been working on implementing "green" policies to convince the people to shift to "renewable" energy or depend on electricity as the main source of power. "This blatantly disregards the fact that extreme weather conditions have been part of Earth's natural history. By attributing every severe storm to human activity, the Biden administration is setting up a story that will now be used to enact further control over the people," Offgrid Survival News wrote. "We've seen these tactics before, and it's looking a whole lot like what they pulled in the lead-up to the COVID-19 shutdowns and lockdowns."
It added that blaming human activity for every single disaster, natural or otherwise, allows politicians to draft 'emergency' policies, enforce ridiculous business killing regulations, and push a political agenda that suits them, regardless of scientific validity or common sense.
"Those who disagree with the latest scam? They are labeled 'climate deniers,' which dismisses any attempt at a balanced and reasoned debate. Dissenters are sidelined and ridiculed for daring to question the religion of the climate change movement," the article further read.
Meanwhile, the president seems to not even recall whether he has declared a national climate emergency or not. He has taken significant legislative and executive steps to curb "climate change," but he has stopped short of actually declaring a national emergency.
In a softball interview with the Weather Channel, the president stressed that climate change is "the existential threat" facing humanity. When pressed on the need to declare a national climate emergency that would free up more resources to fight the effects of global warming, he claimed he has already declared a national emergency.
"Practically speaking, yes. I've already done that," he said. "We've conserved more land, we've rejoined the Paris Climate Accords, and we've passed the $368 billion climate control facility. We're moving."
Later the same day, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre denied Biden's "memory lapse," saying he was referring to his decision last year to invoke the Defense Production Act to spur production of clean energy technologies.
Biden was very close to declaring an emergency in the summer of 2022 after it appeared Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) had tanked the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). In a July 2022 speech in Massachusetts, Biden strongly hinted that he could declare an emergency. However, Manchin and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) had later struck a deal on the IRA.
Biden signed the bill into law in August 2022, which included $369 billion in funding to combat climate change. Since then, Biden has often touted the provisions in the law but has not formally declared a climate emergency.
