BULKING UP: Mark Zuckerberg loading up on McDonald’s amid potential MMA bout with Elon Musk
08/04/2023 // Ramon Tomey // Views

Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been loading up on McDonald's as part of his training for a potential mixed martial arts (MMA) bout with X owner Elon Musk.

He disclosed this craving in a post on his new Threads platform, adding that his orders match his workout routine. The 39-year-old tech bigwig also described his humongous order in the same post, which consists of "20 nuggets, a Quarter Pounder, large fries, Oreo McFlurry, apple pie and maybe some side cheeseburgers."

Zuckerberg's post led MMA fighter Mike Davis, who competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship's (UFC) lightweight division, to speak out. He reminded the Meta CEO that fast-food is a no-no for MMA fighters in training camp.

"Not cutting weight so I need [around] 4,000 calories a day to offset all the activity," the tech bigwig replied to Davis. "And it's so delicious."

The founder of Facebook was previously seen training with UFC stars Alex Volkanovski and Israel Adesanya back in July. Zuckerberg looked ripped in a post-workout training photo with the two cage fighters. Volkanovski lauded the tech bigwig after working out with him.

"I guarantee you, you guys would be very surprised," the Australian featherweight fighter told TMZ. "I'm telling you – he's serious. I don't know how serious Elon is, but I'm telling you, [Zuckerberg is] training."

"I mean, you can see it that he's in shape – but he really is in shape. It's not just looks. He really is, mate. He trains, he's pretty athletic, he's coordinated and he's committed."

The Meta CEO also took an extra step with his training by constructing an MMA octagon in his backyard. The move did not sit well with his wife Priscilla Chan, however.

Zuckerberg shared an exchange between him and his wife on the messaging platform WhatsApp. While he admired the octagon he constructed as "awesome," Chan expressed dismay. She replied: "I have been working on that grass for two years."

UFC's Dana White to promote Zuck-Elon bout

Back in June, Zuckerberg appeared to agree to Musk's proposal of a "cage match," telling the Tesla and SpaceX founder to "send location." The South African-born tech bigwig proposed the Vegas Octagon as a potential venue in response to the Meta CEO. While it is unclear if the fight will actually happen, Zuckerberg seems to be taking his training seriously. (Related: AI artist shows how a cage fight between Musk and Zuckerberg would look.)

For his part, Musk initially joked about the fight. He bragged about his "great move" dubbed "The Walrus," which involves the X owner "just lying on top of his opponent and doing nothing." But Musk later took his MMA training seriously, enduring a few grueling sessions with Canadian MMA legend Georges St. Pierre.

The 52-year-old X owner has a clear advantage in both the height and weight department, but the 37-year-old Meta CEO has the advantage of youth. If the two Big Tech executives do meet in the octagon, UFC President Dana White said back in June that he would promote the bout.

"I was talking to both Elon and Mark last night," White said back in June. "Both guys are absolutely dead serious about this. They both want to do it."

The UFC president said he would charge as much as $100 to those interested to watch the clash of the two tech titans, compared to the standard $80 price for UFC pay-per-view (PPV) events.

"It would break all PPV records," remarked White. "These guys would raise, you know, hundreds of millions of dollars for charity. You don't have to be a big fight fan to be interested in this fight. Everybody would want to see it."
