Secret Service admits it found marijuana twice at the White House in 2022

The Secret Service has confirmed that, apart from its recent discovery of cocaine, it also found marijuana twice at the White House in 2022.

This is according to a classified Secret Service briefing to members of the House Oversight Committee during an investigation into the recent discovery of cocaine in the White House's West Wing over the Fourth of July weekend. A follow-up statement from the Secret Service confirmed the two discoveries of marijuana to media outlets. "Per the Secret Service Uniformed Division, small amounts of marijuana were found on two occasions in 2022 – June and September – at a checkpoint," said the Secret Service representative in a statement. "No one was arrested in these incidents because the weight of the marijuana confiscated did not meet the legal threshold for federal charges or D.C. misdemeanor criminal charges, as the District of Columbia had decriminalized possession. The marijuana was collected by officers and destroyed."

That's not the first time the administration of President Joe Biden has been caught up in a drug scandal. In March 2021, five members of Biden's staff had to be fired for past marijuana use.

Quick closure of Secret Service probe into cocaine discovery raises questions

While possession of less than two ounces of marijuana is not a crime in Washington, D.C., possessing marijuana is still prohibited on federal property, which includes the White House. Furthermore, members of the House of Representatives who were part of the Secret Service briefing have raised concerns regarding security in the White House.

"In 2022, twice while going through screening, people were caught with marijuana in their possession," noted Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, a member of the Oversight Committee. "So this being the third time that drugs were found on the White House property during the Biden administration certainly poses a question: What kind of people are we allowing to go into that premise? And what is their actual purpose there?"

Republicans have also raised concerns about the Secret Service's recently concluded probe regarding the discovery of cocaine at the West Wing – an investigation that failed to identify the owner of the illicit substance.

The Secret Service claimed in a statement that the investigation ended "due to a lack of physical evidence," noting that forensic testing by the Federal Bureau of Investigation was unable to determine whether there were any fingerprints or DNA present around the site where the dime-sized bag of cocaine was discovered.

"Without physical evidence, the investigation will not be able to single out a person of interest from the hundreds of individuals who passed through the vestibule where the cocaine was discovered," the Secret Service said.

"It seems to me that Biden Inc. strikes again," noted House Speaker Kevin McCarthy of California in an interview with reporters. "How can in the White House – [which has] 24/7 security – they find cocaine but now they just closed the investigation. Where in the country do you get treated like this? Only with the Bidens, with the Bidens in charge. There is no equal justice."

Boebert raised concerns regarding how the locker where the cocaine was found was not observable on any security cameras on the West Wing, despite this vestibule sitting feet away from the Situation Room and one floor below the Oval Office.

"This probably is an area that should have had video surveillance, especially since this is not the first time that drugs have been found on the White House property since Biden has taken office," said Boebert. "There should have been implementations made to ensure security at the White House already before this cocaine appeared."

"We did not have scandals when [former President Donald Trump] was in office to this degree," Boebert added. "And it just poses the question: What kind of people is Joe Biden bringing into the White House?"
