The issue hinges upon the recent punishment of Dr. Michael Joyner, a professor and Mayo Clinic member who presented research on public health covering a range of topics from COVID to transgenderism. Joyner's commentary on these topics was perceived by the Mayo Clinic as going against certain official government policies, which prompted the organization to go after him in pursuit of silencing him.
According to the Mayo Clinic, it is more important for its members to stick with "prescribed messaging" rather than speak their own minds based on their own research and professional assessments – you know, what good doctors are supposed to do. In other words, the Mayo Clinic expects its members to be robotic drones that simply parrot whatever they are told by the "authorities" rather than be the doctors and health professionals they were trained to be.
The Mayo Clinic emphasized in the memo the fact that it is more concerned with the image of its "brand" than with allowing its members to speak the truth and help patients, especially when that truth goes against the establishment's "prescribed messaging" for something like COVID or LGBT issues.
(Related: In 2021, Mayo Clinic-trained Dr. Ryan Cole warned that COVID "vaccines" lock suppressed immunity into people's bodies, making them more prone to contracting HIV, HPV, shingles and herpes.)
We first learned about the Joyner incident in early June after the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) urged the Mayo Clinic's faculty to back off in its oppression of Joyner and his free speech rights.
It was Mayo Clinic Chief Communications Officer Halena Gazelka who wrote the aforementioned memo indicating that rather than back off from the controversy, the organization will instead be doubling down in pursuit of Joyner and any others who disobey its orders.
None of this abides by the Mayo Clinic college's "promise" to both teachers and students that it is committed to the right of free speech. Clearly, this is not the case since Joyner was not only suspended but also put under a strict gag order.
Despite all this, Gazelka brazenly urged the college's leadership to continue pretending as though the Mayo Clinic is "fully committed to academic freedom and expression," these being her exact words from the memo.
Joyner is still not allowed to speak with reporters without the college's permission. And the Mayo Clinic is claiming that this gag order has nothing to do with his statements about COVID or transgenderism, but rather about some comments he made about the National Institute of Health's (NIH) regulation of convalescent plasma.
"Dr. Joyner's comments about the NIH did not reflect the expression of a scientific or academic opinion, but instead were an expression of his personal frustration with the NIH's regulation of a therapy he had championed," Gazelka wrote in the memo, referring to Joyner as making "unprofessional comments."
The Mayo Clinic used to be regarded as a reputable health organization with top-of-the-line science. Now we can see it is no different than Facebook or Google in terms of putting a muzzle on the truth whenever it threatens the establishment's narrative.
"We can no longer depend on the information we get from Mayo Clinic," one commenter wrote.
