The Daily Wire disclosed in a June 28 report that the Biden administration's Department of State has set aside $49,813 for the YR Gaitonde Medical, Educational and Research Foundation (YRGMERF). The foundation is based in the city of Chennai in India's southernmost Tamil Nadu state. Aside from this amount, the State Department is slated to provide YRGMERF with another $42,125 in "non-federal funding" – the origin of which is unlisted.
The Chennai-based nonprofit reportedly received the grant on May 30, with May 31, 2024 listed as its end date. The grant seeks to support "the achievement of U.S. foreign policy goals and objectives, advance national interests and enhance national security by informing and influencing foreign publics." In particular, YRGMERF aims to "sensitize employees of corporate entities in Hyderabad and Chennai toward transgender persons in their workforce, adopt inclusive policies and create a safe and nurturing environment."
According to the Daily Wire, the State Department previously announced a grant of up to $50,000 to a pro-transgender organization in India. The agency was specifically seeking a program that would "lead to the setting up of Pride/Rainbow groups within corporations that actively create awareness about [transgender] persons and their rights." Moreover, the grant was seeking a "concrete objective" of influencing Indian firms to "develop active transgender employee recruitment plans."
"The long-term intention is that these corporations and businesses increase their hiring of members of the transgender community and help their employees and the general public be more accepting."
A spokesperson for the State Department told the Daily Wire: "Indigenous persons, religious and ethnic minorities, women, LGBT persons and persons with disabilities, among others, live with disproportionate violence that requires targeted support." The State Department's May 30 grant awarded to the YRGMERF came as Indian officials and activists push for more policies surrounding transgenderism. In 2020, the U.S. Consulate General in Kolkata helped open India's first transgender medical clinic in Eastern India. It likewise celebrated the opening of another clinic the year after.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai – located in the same city where YRGMERF is located – has also held Pride events. One such event was a virtual panel titled "Recognizing Pride in American Literature."
The Biden administration's promotion of the LGBT agenda, often using American tax money, is not limited to India. According to a Breitbart report, the State Department earlier pledged $30,000 to a pro-transgender organization in the Central Asian nation of Kyrgyzstan.
The agency awarded the grant to a group called Kyrgyz Indigo, which prides itself on being the "largest LGBT human rights and advocacy organization in Central Asia." The grant sought to "prevent gender-based violence against the transgender community and increase acceptance through sensitivity and advocacy trainings, and media campaigns."
Kyrgyz Indigo aims to enable "unfettered access to unemployment insurance [to] all LGBT people and sex workers." It has also set its sights on the education system in the Muslim-majority nation.
"Due to widespread homophobia and transphobia, many children at school cannot express their sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics," the organization claimed. Thus, it suggested that schools "implement training programs for teachers and counselors on how to deal with LGBT students, schoolchildren who experience discrimination or ask questions about their sexual orientation and/or gender identity."
