He began the June 6 edition of his Brighteon.TV program "Lawfare with Tom Renz" by citing a June 6 press release from the America First Legal (AFL) website. It stated that AFL served big-box retailer Target a formal demand for it to produce books and records. The demand filed by AFL on behalf of its client National Center for Public Policy Research seeks transparency regarding the radical LGBT political agenda of the retailer, which has cost the company $12 billion.
AFL President Stephen Miller said his group "is proud to represent American shareholders financially harmed by Target’s descent into gender extremism and child sexual exploitation."
"Building a trusted national brand can take decades. And yet, one major American corporation after another has chosen to immolate their brands, reputations, decency and dignity in a bonfire to appease the woke mob – instead of safeguarding their shareholders, customers and communities and honoring their inviolable fiduciary obligations."
According to Renz, Target's pivot toward wokeism was a terrible decision without any legitimate basis. He added that companies, especially publicly traded one, do not exist to promote woke ideals as they are owned by their shareholders.
Taking a shareholder's value in a company to run it into the dirt simply because the ones doing so have control is illegal, the lawyer emphasized. Thus, AFL's lawsuit is a shareholder lawsuit because Target has a duty to its shareholders not to destroy the value of the company. The "Lawfare" host mentioned that "woke" isn't about being kind, open-minded or conscious and becoming enlightened. Aside from creating dissent and problems, wokeism is feeding delusions and bad things.
"Wokeism is a nightmare," Renz said. "It's about division. They try and pretend that it's about bringing us together, but it's actually just the opposite."
He ultimately remarked that the people pushing for wokeism are liars for claiming that they want to bring people together. In truth, they are trying to divide Americans and get everybody fighting against each other – so they can come in and take over while everyone is distracted.
Renz also cited a Summit News article on his program about Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and his thoughts on the word "woke." The Republican presidential candidate's comments were in reply to former President Donald Trump, who expressed his dislike of the term as nobody knows what it really means.
"Woke is an existential threat to our society," said the Florida governor. "To say that it's not a big deal … just shows you don't understand what a lot of these issues are right now."
DeSantis defined woke as "a form of Cultural Marxism" and "basically a war on the truth." He continued: "It's about putting merit and achievement behind identity politics. That has infected institutions, and it has corrupted institutions."
"You've got to be willing to fight the woke. We've done that in Florida, and we proudly consider ourselves the state where woke goes to die."
Renz then commented that Trump's remarks did not mean that he downplays the threat of wokeism. He said: "At the end of the day, wokeism is a huge threat. It is, and Trump recognizes that just like DeSantis. All of our guys do it so these guys squabbling with each other to me is stupid, but the point remains."
