Zang Jianjun, the erstwhile director of Chinese energy firm CEFC, was pictured sharing a toast with Putin during the World Judo Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Another picture showed the two having drinks with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban at the same event. Putin's favorite sport is judo, and he even authored two books about the Japanese martial art – explaining his presence at the event.
Moreover, the Daily Mail noted that Zang is also close to Xi. The former CEFC official was previously seen traveling to Moscow with the Chinese paramount leader to meet with Putin. Xi and Zang brokered a massive $9.1 billion deal to buy a share of the Russian state-owned oil firm Rosneft in 2017.
According to the news outlet, Xi gave Zang the green light to partner with Hunter. It cited texts by Hunter to his American partners in May 2017 revealing that No. 1 – a code for the Chinese leader – allowed Zang to come as a partner.
Former Biden business associate Tony Bobulinski also attested to this close relationship between Zang and Xi, based on text messages between him, the presidential son and British partner James Gilliar.
CEFC partnered with Hunter and James Biden, brother of U.S. President Joe Biden, on a multi-million dollar deal in 2018. James received a salary of $65,000 per month from the venture, while the presidential son had a monthly salary of $100,000 plus a $500,00 retainer. Hunter knows Zang's direct involvement with the Russian and Chinese leaders
This essentially meant that Hunter knew about his business partner's direct involvement with both the Russian and Chinese leaders, who are arguably the U.S.'s greatest foes.
However, CEFC's deal to buy a stake in Rosneft collapsed the following year when company chairman Ye Jianming was arrested in China for suspected "economic crimes," as per local media. Also contributing to the deal's collapse was the arrest of top CEFC executive Patrick Ho in November 2017, who was later convicted by a New York court of bribing African leaders.
This led to Hunter being anxious that he could be publicly linked to the giant oil deal between America's superpower adversaries.
In December 2018, Hunter complained to his sister-in-law, Hallie Biden, about dealing with the stress of his missing Chinese business partner and the "suspected involvement" in arranging the multibillion-dollar oil deal with Russia.
In previously-revealed texts, he told Hallie that Ye had been abducted and possibly assassinated and that the billionaire's right-hand man, Ho, Hunter's client, was the Chinese "chief of intelligence" who had been convicted in the United States. Hunter also said he had a giant tax bill "hanging over" him and that his house of cards was falling in just as his father, Joe, was deciding on running for president.
This could be a national security nightmare for intelligence services, who would have to share classified information with the deeply compromised Joe when he won the 2020 race.
Moreover, Gilliar's texts and Bobulinski's testimony all suggested that the U.S. president was not only aware of his son's dealing with CEFC, but was also actually involved in it.
A now-infamous email written by Gilliar laid out the plan for the ownership of the CEFC joint venture, which lists 10 percent of the equity for James Biden and 10 percent "held by Hunter for the big guy," which is said to be Joe Biden.
The same phrase was also used to refer to the current president multiple times in emails and texts on Hunter's abandoned laptop.
