Swiss firm Oppidum, which supplies fortified underground residences, has unveiled its new L'Heritage bunkers for ultra high-net worth individuals. Oppidum hired French architect Marc Prigent to design the stretched underground homes for "unprecedented times" with each one providing a minimum of 10,000 square feet of space.
According to Robb Report, the residences can be custom-made to fit the owner's tastes and they can include extra facilities such as an extra-large garage, a private art gallery, meeting lounges, an indoor garden and even a spa with a private pool. The homes have two independent air filtration systems with a primary unit for peacetime operation which offers fresh air indefinitely and a state-of-the-art secondary air filtration system that can protect against airborne contaminants "be it of radioactive, chemical, biological or nuclear origin," the website added.
Oppidum's unique high-pressure air reserve and internal circulation gives an adequate level of oxygen in the building and simultaneously keeps an overpressure to guarantee absolute airtightness and gas-tightness of the indoor environment.
The air filtration contains a carbon dioxide removal system to supply breathable air when there is insufficient or no fresh air supply in the building. The auxiliary supply connected to the carbon dioxide removal will provide a sufficient level of oxygen when necessary.
The principal structure is a reinforced concrete shell designed for static and dynamic loads, blast or shock waves, seismicity and other factors.
Heavy security is essential considering that these bunkers are made to withstand an apocalypse in utmost luxury. To that end, reinforced blast doors are controlled by a multi-biometric meter that scans a resident's face, iris, palm and fingerprints. An integrated, military-grade security system along with the ability to survive off-grid comes with each home.
"They are places of serenity and absolute safety for owners and their families. We are privileged to offer our clients the highest levels of service, creating beautiful places that will protect them and their legacy for generations to come," Oppidum founder and chief executive officer Jakub Zamrazil said in a statement.
"We take an optimistic view of the world. But not all events are foreseeable or preventable. It is wise to be prepared to weather the storm when necessary. In an uncertain world, an Oppidum provides peace of mind. It is a place of strength that enables our clients to preserve and protect what matters most."
The bunkers are currently available in the United States, European Union, United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates.
The fortified underground bunkers are also described as "optimized for super-luxury everyday lifestyle, while prepared for all surface threats."
The fully airtight and gastight underground bunker can be totally isolated from the outside atmosphere if needed, such as in the case of a man-made or natural disaster.
Arriving by surface helicopter pad, homeowners can come down almost 50 feet below ground to enter a large garage space designed for car collections.
After going through an airlock, fully equipped as a decontamination chamber, the bunker features include comfortable bedroom suites and other leisure amenities for daily use. A vault to store collections of art masterpieces, gold, cash and other valuables is also available.
An optional armory can be set up built to NATO-standard ballistic and blast protection standards using high-density concrete with the same composition used to make nuclear power plants.
Concerning the prices, a basic level Oppidum bunker begins at $10 million with no upper limit. The L'Heritage model is about $100 million with the closing price depending on location, size and fit out.
The company said each bunker integrates the highest levels of environmental and military protection systems seamlessly into a luxurious addition to an existing family estate.
Using technology from National Aeronautics and Space Administration, storerooms have stocks of enduring and nutritious food that are sufficient for months or years. The separate medical room has its own secure storage for important medical supplies.
