The recently concluded Boise Pride Festival, Idaho's largest gay event, suspended its drag kids' performance that would have featured dances from child drag performers. Organizers reportedly decided to suspend the performance after the state GOP called on constituents to pressure event sponsors to withdraw support.
When the Idaho GOP and its chair Dorothy Moon got wind of a drag show to be performed by 11- to 18-year-olds, the organization launched a series of press releases on Sept. 7 and 8, saying the Left was using a taxpayer-funded event to "sexualize children." Also, Zions Bank, one of the multiple financial institutions to initially support the event, was among the first groups to pull their support from the festival.
According to Breitbart, Zions released a statement saying they were not previously aware of the events involving minors and decided to pull its support after being notified about the planned child drag show.
Other sponsors such as the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare and Idaho Power canceled their contributions as well.
In Texas, meanwhile, one group is organizing against the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. The said religious institution intends to hold a "family-friendly drag bingo" this month.
The church, which openly supports LGBT populations, is using the bingo game open to families to benefit its "Transparent Closet," a clothing boutique for "trans and exploring teens, youth and young adults."
According to the church's website, the Bingo fundraiser will feature "Kiki" and "Jamie" in its event lineup.
Rebecca Clark, executive director of the Fort Bend County County Citizens Defending Freedom, said moms from Katy and the Houston area signified their willingness to protest in front of the church to stop these kinds of entertainment numbers that would "groom" their children and would sexualize them.
"The citizens of Fort Bend County emphatically reject sexual performances for children in any venue. Followers of Christ reject these blasphemous sexual performances in what is purported to be a house of worship," Clark said via text. Additionally, singer-songwriter James McCoy Taylor posted on social media that he will also rally outside the church on Sept. 24, the same church he once attended while living in Katy.
"We need you. Bring signs. Tell your friends. Tag a pastor or someone who should be there," Taylor posted on Facebook.
Meanwhile, organizers of the Joliet Pride Festival in Illinois has removed a line from their advertisement that encouraged children to bring dollar bills to tip the drag queens.
But Twitter user Libs of TikTok (@libsoftiktok) was quick to capture this "grooming-supportive" invite and posted: "Joliet, IL encourages kids to 'bring your dollar bills' so they can hand tips to the drag queens during the all-ages drag show."
The organizers later posted an edited poster without the asterisked note on the lower part of the virtual notice that encourages kids to bring money and tip the drag performers.
The said LGBT festival is promoted by a number of sponsors that include Will County Executive Jennifer Bertino and State Representative Natalie Manley. Companies Exxon and Holiday Inn have also financed the event.
