What is taking place in Seattle is emblematic of what's going on around the country, even in 'red states' and mid-sized communities where most suburban parents believe their kids are 'safe'.
According to the Washington Free Beacon, Seattle taxpayers are paying more for "equity" and "inclusion" curriculum -- both of which are code words covering up anti-white racism -- than reading, writing, arithmetic, proper history, and critical thinking.
Meanwhile, an increasing number of students in Emerald City and beyond are failing to meet even basic educational standards:
Seattle Public Schools would spend more than $5 million on so-called DEI initiatives, including a "racial equity analysis tool" and an after-school program for black male students who are "referred to as kings," according to a district budget proposal for the 2022-23 school year.
The budget allots a little more than $4.5 million for core academic subjects, such as math, science, and literacy. More than half-a-million dollars would be cut from the science budget as well. The school district lists "racial equity," "engaging students of color," and ensuring disciplinary policies are not used "as a substitute for culturally responsive behavioral and social emotional supports," among its guiding principles for the budget.
Needless to say, this horrifically racist policy comes as student proficiencies in reading and math have fallen another 6 points and 16 points respectively, just since 2019. Last year, test scores found that almost 56 percent of Seattle students are not at all competent in science while more -- 57 percent -- are not competent in math. Less than one-third of black students, or 30 percent, and 18 percent of Native American students are able to meet their grade-level standards. Of course, public school officials have identified a scapegoat: The COVID-19 pandemic, which led to more than a year's worth of remote learning that they imposed.
"Parents across the nation in recent months have agitated against the rise of race-based educational movements like critical race theory and 'antiracist' instruction in public schools," the Free Beacon reported. "Some have gone as far as to sue school districts, alleging the movements are fomenting a new form of racial discrimination."
"The issue became particularly salient during last year’s Virginia gubernatorial election, with then-Republican nominee Glenn Youngkin pledging to ban critical race theory being taught in public schools," the report added.
That is true.
A woman who has filed suit against a Missouri school district for pushing critical race theory curricula said last fall she believes that school districts in general that are using the materials are doing so specifically to drive a wedge between parents and their kids while striking fear into educators in an effort to prevent them from meting out discipline, Just the News reported.
In the lawsuit, Brooke Henderson sought to force the Springfield, Mo., school district to eliminate CRT materials that she was subjected to last year, part of which inform educators they could be practicing white supremacist or oppressive behavior by insisting that students use English in the classroom, if they said things like “all lives matter,” or if they call police on a black student.
The materials suggested principal American institutions like churches were allegedly part of a cycle of repression, but “I think it’s even worse, that we’re teaching our kids to not trust their parents,” Henderson told the podcast.
“If you look at one of the oppression matrixes, it says that adults are the oppressor,” she added. “And, you know, the border groups are the young adults, but the elderly, and the younger children fall into that, you know, oppressed category. … I cannot think of anything worse than telling your child to not trust her parents and that their parent is oppressive to them.”
The Marxist left is out to destroy America as founded. That much should be obvious by now.
