Biden asks Congress to suspend federal gas tax for 90 days – WHY NOT PERMANENTLY?
06/23/2022 // Ethan Huff // Views

Fake "president" Joe Biden stumbled through a speech this week calling on Congress to immediately suspend the federal gas tax for the next three months, which will shave 18 cents per gallon off the cost of automobile fuel.

Just days after Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen proposed the very same thing, Biden made an appearance to pretend as though he cares about the plight of everyday Americans who are struggling to fill their tanks at these astronomical prices.

"Cough – first, today I am calling on Congress to suspend the federal gas tax for the next 90 days through the busy summer season, the busy travel season," Biden said.

"Here's what that means: every time you go to the gas station to fill your tank, the federal government charges an 18-cent tax per gallon of gas that you purchase and a 24-cent tax per gallon of diesel you purchase. It's a tax that's been around for 90 years."

Biden went on to ramble about how these taxes feed the highway trust fund "to keep our highways going." They can still keep going, Biden maintains, because tax revenues are "up this year and our deficit is down over $1.6 trillion this year alone."

"We can do both at the same time," Biden added about how the roads will still get repaired even without American consumers getting gouged with gas taxes.

"I call on the companies to pass this along, every penny of this 18-cent reduction, to the consumers," Biden went on to mutter. "There's no time now for profiteering."

Remember when Obama called temporary gas tax suspensions a "gimmick?"

Rewind back to 2008 for a moment when Barack Hussein Obama was running for president. At that time, there was talk about invoking a "gas tax holiday" to help ease the burden on Americans, and Obama called it a "gimmick."

"For us to suggest 30 cents a day for three months is real relief, that that's a real energy policy, means that we are not tackling the problem that has to be tackled," Obama told a cheering crowd – watch below:

First of all, Obama's math makes no sense. Secondly, the guy basically called his now-former vice president's solution to the current inflationary crisis, which dwarfs the last one, a gimmick.

How many Americans will actually remember Obama's 2008 speech and compared it to Biden's speech from this week? And even more importantly, if the federal gas tax is not currently needed to keep America's roads intact, then why not abolish it entirely?

"No federal gas tax, yippee," wrote a commenter sarcastically. "Instead of paying $5.39 per gallon, now I'll be paying $5.21. What a relief. This will really help next time I go grocery shopping."

"Saving 18 cents per gallon is nothing in the era of $6-per-gallon gas, even for semi-trucks that drive an average of 650 miles per day," added another.

"And to top it off our infrastructure is failing because vehicles get better gas mileage today than they did 30 or 40 years ago, so we are already behind on normal maintenance and improvements from a lack of funding. Open drilling already! Start mining coal again, and if you want people to drive electric vehicles for local nonsense you'd better get the cost down by opening up rare earth mines here in the states."

Many others echoed these sentiments.
