(Natural News) Tyrannical Democrats used the COVID-19 pandemic to eliminate as many civil and constitutional rights for as many Americans as they could, but as the virus begins to recede and some say vaccines may be helping reduce infections, some of them don’t want to let go of their newly acquired authority.

In Oregon, for instance, the Democrat supermajority that rules the bucolic and scenic state that once stood for the iconic pioneer spirit is considering legislation to make the wearing of masks permanent, as well as social distancing, as the current mandates for both are set to expire May 4.

The Epoch Times reports:

Oregon’s Occupational Safety and Health Division (OSHA) is proposing rules with no end date that would require a mask or other face covering for any person entering a business or a housing facility provided by employers. The rules would also require maintaining distance between people.

“As the Governor’s Executive Order is set to expire, the public health emergency remains a substantial concern in Oregon. As a result, it is necessary to extend the provisions from the Executive Order with a permanent rule. The unique exposures created in the labor housing environment, particularly in working situations requiring large numbers of workers, make these rules necessary to reduce risk to individual workers,” the agency said in a summary of one of the proposed rules.

Meanwhile, the masking mandate for businesses would more than likely be repealed “once it is no longer necessary to address the COVID-19 pandemic,” the agency added.

Needless to say, this tyranny isn’t going over well with many Oregonians. In fact, according to The Epoch Times, OSHA has gotten a record number of comments regarding the proposed lunacy, and most are not supportive. In addition, more than 60,000 residents have signed a petition opposing them.

The author of the petition, Jack Dresser, is arguing that an unelected public agency should not be permitted to have “‘indefinite’ authority over any facet of public life.”

“These rules would continue to impose intrusive, burdensome, and unnecessary reach of government into Oregon businesses, their employees, customer and client privacy, and customer freedoms to conduct commerce without government interference,” he wrote.

Critics of the proposed rule — who are very familiar with the political habits of the tyrannical Democrat species — are also leery because they are certain once this rule takes effect it won’t ever go away because the party of authoritarianism will always find a reason to justify masks and social distancing. Besides, if the vaccines do work, and we’re not saying they do, what is the point of masks and social distancing? Both things can’t be true at the same time: “Vaccines create immunity but masks still must be worn to ‘protect against infection.'” (Related: Walgreens store “accidentally” administers saline shots instead of Covid-19 vaccines.)

Because that’s the science.

“When will masks be unnecessary? What scientific studies do these mandates rely on, particularly now that the vaccine is days away from being available to everyone?” said state Sen. Kim Thatcher, a Republican. “Businesses have had to play ‘mask cop’ for the better part of a year now. They deserve some certainty on when they will no longer be threatened with fines.”

Michael Wood, head of Oregon’s OSHA, has said he’s taking a look at all of the feedback to see if adjustments are needed before making a final decision on the rule early next month.

Notes The Epoch Times, “Oregon, a blue state, has been among those with the country’s most stringent COVID-19 restrictions and now stands in contrast with much of the rest of the nation as vaccines become more widely available.”

Several states have already lifted their mask mandates. They are Alabama, Iowa, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, and Texas; many others, including Missouri and South Dakota, never issued one.

“Make no mistake, COVID-19 has not disappeared, but it is clear from the recoveries, vaccinations, reduced hospitalizations, and safe practices that Texans are using that state mandates are no longer needed,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said last month.
