New York Attorney General Letitia James has been spearheading an investigation into nursing home policies. The AG’s office has uncovered severe "patient neglect” and other “concerning conduct." Many of the sick patients who were returned to nursing homes did not receive adequate care, ultimately infecting others in close quarters. Many of the elderly who were rushed to the hospital with covid-19 and symptoms of severe acute respiratory infection were initially NOT reported casualties of Cuomo’s negligent nursing home policies. The AG’s office is uncovering new cases of hospitalization and death that were the result of ignorant government policy that led to unnecessary infectious disease spread.
Despite the genocide, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, has repeatedly praised Cuomo’s handling of the pandemic, even as data proves Cuomo was the source of the problem. Cuomo continues to deny that his policies negatively affected nursing home deaths in New York, yet this is exactly where most of the carnage was observed. It was Cuomo’s policies that led to disease spread where it mattered most -- turning over-medicated, immune-compromised and malnourished nursing home patients into sitting ducks.
Cuomo’s friends at the Department of Health tried to cover for their governor. They repeatedly made the claim that the patients who were sent back to nursing homes were not contagious and not a source of infection. When the Department of Health published total nursing home death data, they intentionally left out the number of residents who died from covid-19 in hospitals after being transferred from their nursing homes. Letitia James conducted an investigation into twenty nursing homes. She found that many of the returning COVID patients were still weak, in recovery, and indeed a leading source of infection. James found that one nursing home under-reported twenty-nine deaths from COVID on a single August day.
"While we cannot bring back the individuals we lost to this crisis," James said, "this report seeks to offer transparency that the public deserves and to spur increased action to protect our most vulnerable residents. Nursing homes residents and workers deserve to live and work in safe environments, and I will continue to work hard to safeguard this basic right during this precarious time."
The office of the Attorney General also found that many nursing homes "failed to comply with critical infection control policies." Patient neglect was a serious concern, as many nursing homes were understaffed and lacked proper personal protection equipment. Nursing home patients are already suffering from malnutrition. Not only are their bodies pumped full of immune-compromising drugs, but also, many never see the light of day and suffer from low vitamin D and C levels and a shrinking thymus gland. Because of low T-cell count, many are incapable of mounting a healthy immune response to any infection. Further investigation should be conducted to learn why nursing home patients are more apt to die from infection in the first place and why health care systems are failing senior citizens at such an alarming pace.
