Anti-gun mom says you should stop trying to defend your children against violent crime and just buy life insurance instead

We’ve heard Leftists offer up some pretty stupid reasons for denying Americans the right to keep and bear arms, as the Constitution guarantees, but this one is by far the dumbest.

Supporters of the Second Amendment generally have only two arguments to make when it comes to gun rights:

— People have an inalienable right to self-defense (meaning a ‘natural’ right that cannot be ‘granted’ or taken away by any government);

— There’s that Second Amendment thing that says Americans’ right “to keep and bear arms…shall not be infringed.”

That’s pretty basic and it’s very easy to comprehend. Under our form of government, the two reasons for keeping and carrying guns are self-evident and protected.

But anti-gunners, by comparison, have concocted a myriad of reasons why lawmakers should pay no attention to the Second Amendment and deprive all of us of our right to keep and bear arms.

These people endlessly rationalize about why we don’t need guns or why government should restrict our access to them.

That said, Gabrielle Blair, mommy blogger, wrote a book “about how to be a mom and live in a house that looks like its being featured in Better Homes & Gardens or Martha Stewart Living,” Gun Free Zone noted.

Those used to be called “catalog homes” because every single room looked like those featured in housewares and home goods catalogs. The perfect setting all the time.

An unrealistic setting, in other words, especially if you have kids in the home.

But suffice it to say that it appears certain, on the outside, that she’s no gun use or gun policy expert. Throw in the fact that she and her family live in midnight blue San Francisco.

In a recent tweet, Blair criticized Americans who want a gun to protect their families because “there are far better ways” to do so. (Related: Dems’ gun control push won’t be enforceable without a national gun registry.)

Namely, “Get a life insurance policy.”

So, you have to DIE to collect this…right?

Yes, she actually wrote that; here’s the tweet.

“I know you truly believe that you'll need to defend your family at gunpoint. You need to let that go. Statistically it's just not going to happen. I know it's boring, but if you want to protect your family, things like seatbelts, fire alarms, and life insurance are your best bet,” she continued.

“The reality is, you're probably going to die of heart disease or diabetes, or just old age and natural causes. I know it's not as cool-sounding as an armed-standoff, but it's still true.”

You know, there is an expression that says “everyone is entitled to their own opinion,” but every now and then we tend to question that. It should say, “Everyone is entitled to an informed opinion.”

Let’s break down this lunacy, shall we?

First off, you have to actually die before your family can collect on your life insurance. Mind you, the entire purpose behind having a gun and learning how to use it is to prevent yourself from prematurely dying in the first place.

Go ahead and get that life insurance, of course. But don’t use it as your ‘self-defense’ tool.

Secondly, having a firearm for self-defense and learning how to use it properly is not anything but an insurance policy itself. Most people’s homes won’t burn down or get consumed by a tornado or get flooded, but we buy insurance just in case.

True, most Americans are not going to become victims of crime. But if it does happen, isn’t it better to be prepared to defend yourself and your family — or is it better to just allow yourselves to become statistics?

Granted defending yourself in a catalog home might mess up the carpeting and the walls a bit, but those can be replaced.

You and your loved ones cannot, even with an “insurance policy.”
